I expect either Apple or BMW will resolve the software stuff. So far, I have three problems:

1) The wireless charging pad improperly activates Apple Pay and keeps it on the screen. It seems to charge but wonder if having Apple Pay active also drains the battery.

2) Can't use any of the digital key stuff iPhone. Thought this was supposed to work with both iPhone and Android. Maybe it is supposed to be Android only.

3) Music plans just fine over Bluetooth but the car does not always display the song that is playing and sometimes messes up with playlists.

Fortunately, I would expect software fixes could solve all of this. Just a matter of when.

Can you scroll through music with the wheel or iDrive?

Sometimes. Other times it does not display the songs but shows a list with the songs numbered "title 23", "title 24", etc.

Weird. I don’t even get that, except on my old iPod classic, which will let me scroll but keeps turning repeat back on.

What iPhone and software version are you using?

I'm using an iPhone XS with IOS 12.1. Worked fine with the F15 I turned in yesterday. This morning I was having this weird problem with it playing these two songs over and over. Needed to reload the playlist for it to work.

Thank you for sharing your issues with BMW. This is quite common for new model cars on the first year model. Most issues will be software related so it can be easily solved by future updates.

Porsche is a more reliable brand compared to BMW and they also has various issues on their new generation Cayenne initially. Most problems will be solved after 6~12 month period.

Enjoy your new vehicle!

Odd.

Locked the car. Unlocked the car. Checked the steering wheel adjuster. It works again. but

Then maybe you should go post on a Porsche forum. Get lost.

I just want to tell the owner of this post it is is quite common to see this kind of small issues on new model cars and it is not only limited to BMW.

That's unnecessary! I own a Porsche, Mercedes, Acura and now a BMW and I don't see why having an opinion about what one is a better brand is such an issue.

According to JDPower 2018 VDS, Porsche ranked the second (higher than BMW). It is the same situation in 2017,2016, (Porsche ranking higher than BMW).

Looking at another study, Initial Quality Study from JD power. Posche is ranking the first in 2015, 2016, 3rd in 2017 , 4th in 2018, all ahead BMW. I say Porsche is a more reliable brand for a reason.

A brand which generally has less issues on their new cars is having problems on their new models cars, so it is common and forgivable for BMW.

My 2016 F16 continually has hiccups in the electronics. I had a salesperson tell me with my first 2007 5 series that BMW is known for their Gremlins. I laughed it off but it has proven to be mostly true. I can live with the Gremlins as long as they do not affect the driving performance. I have never had an electronic issue where it affected the drivability so far.

Digital key works only with Sumsung Galaxy 7 and above, not with iPhone or other Android phones.

Curious if Apple Carplay is a temporary work around for some of the music issues. I'd hate for it to be the only solution but if it works while BMW irons out the kinks...

Are they both usb type-c? If not, maybe it’s a cable issue as well?

So, possible the usb type-c cable/adapter is the problem? I think Apple sells ones they “certify” but others may be iffy.
