Auto Start/Stop
Does anyone know how to turn off the ASS and retain the setting in my driver profile? My 2018 540i holds the off setting. No luck with the new X5. Thanks!!

Can't. Everyone should take it back to the dealer and insist that they fix it.

Sometime after June 2018 production BMW changed this feature so it would Not remember the last setting. As Almaretto said you can have it coded by a 3rd. party to remember the last setting.

The button is still there, it's next to the start/stop button. I guess the old models would allow you to set it to off in the settings so it was always off. Now it is on by default every time you start the car.

Download the bimmercode app and do it yourself. Dealers will not turn it off.

Sorry. I was being a smart-ass. Not meant towards you. This is just irritating and BMW should feel the irritation from everyone. And no, it's not mandated to be that way. BMW could have chosen to not include it in their official testing and certification, and then they could let us do what the vast majority of us will want, which is to turn it off. But they chose to do it this way.

But at least we can still turn it off each time. Other manufacturers, it cannot be turned off. |

Yes, it is about gas mileage, but it was still BMW's choice. The regulations say that whatever condition they use to test and certify a car for the official gas mileage rating can't be turned off by default. If BMW had chosen to test with this "feature" turned off, then they would have been allowed to make it optional to turn it off by default. But they wanted credit for the extra 1 tenth of an MPG, so we are stuck with it. So yes, it is about gas mileage, but it was still a choice BMW made.

All you have to do is push the button next to the start button which is now located very close to where your hand will normally be or just have your car coded to remember the last setting.

I actually don't mind the auto stop for long lights and it keeps MPG ratio high.
There are times I find it intrusive and sometimes dangerous when you let off the gas at a light it stops and you have to go quickly. Glad there is a switch and good to know you can code it through the app. |
