If so what are your thoughts? A few pro reviews I read claimed it was not an option they would recommend due to the strange feeling you get when cornering. This would not be good since you need to add this feature in order to get air suspension on the 40.

You could get the third row seats and then just keep them down. I'm in the same boat tho -- trying to figure out if it's worth getting. Seems some people swear by it, and others find it really weird.

I have it and appreciate the tighter turning radius. I do not feel anything strange in the ride or drive.

This is a fine thing on a performance vehicle, such as the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door, but it felt unnatural and difficult to predict in the X5. I routinely entered turns too quickly because the X5 simply didn't bleed speed like a vehicle of its size should. IAS makes the X5 feel twitchy and unpredictable in corners and combined with the lifeless (but perfectly weighted) steering, this means it isn't the same confident handler in its fourth generation as it was in its third. I've requested a loan in Detroit of a 2019 X5 with IAS so I can do a more thorough test. Perhaps with more than a few hours of seat time, the positives of BMW’s four-wheel steering will be more evident.

Feels fine to me as well.

Definitely feels a bit smoother around tight turns. I have it and the DHP. The combination is much better than my F15 but not sure which to give credit and where.

It sounds like a great feature for parking in tight spaces.

I have IAS in my order, mainly to help with parallel parking in tight space.
Have not receive the car yet. Hopefully production will start next week !

Does anyone know if Parking Assistance Plus will incorporate IAS ?

I can only speak for me but I believe it is incorporating it with my testing I have done.

Actually, you can order them separately, although I've ordered both on my 40i. On mine, the 2-axle air suspension is a no cost option for the M-Sport package, while the IAS is ordered separately as the Comfort Handling Package.

IAS was first introduced by BMW on the E31 8 series (they called it AHK -- BMW loves their acronyms), but only the euro version got it. I know a couple of euro E31 owners who think its fantastic, which is why I ordered it on my G05. I originally thought it was the variable ratio steering that they first introduced (I think) on the F01 7 series, which uses the same name -- that system only changes the degree to which the steering input turned the front wheels, based upon vehicle speed. I drove a 750 with that system, didn't particularly like it. But four wheel steering is something very different, and I look forward to having it.

I have it on mine and i don't really feel any weirdness. I love how easy it is to make tight turns. I dont feel any difference at high speeds.

BTW, option 2VR - air suspension and 2VH - IAS could be ordered separately when I built my 40i. My CA entered my order with only 2VR first, then I added 2VH about a week later.

But now you cannot add one option without the other on BMW website !?

I'm just thinking if it would be a good or bad thing to have this when driving through snow or slippery conditions. Apparently on the F10, you could disable it by selecting the "snow chains" option in the iDrive. I"m not sure if this option exists on the X5 or not.
But anyways, I just assumed that it would be better to turn the feature off in snow but perhaps i'm wrong

I finally had a chance to test one out today with IAS and my goodness, the difference in absolutely amazing!! Let me explain,

Low speeds, definitely easier to stall or parallel park the beast. I'm coming from a X3 and the turning radius felt very similar. Also nice ot have less rotations of the steering wheel required to maneuver.

Higher speeds: lane changes, ramps...the beast feels like its riding on rails..just absolutely unbelievable.

I felt absolutely no weirdness at all in the driving characteristics. I'm adding this option to my build!
