Please search before posting. There are 2 M50's the M50i and M50d. The M50d is in production already but I assume you're asking about the M50i. No one knows when it will go into production which could've been found with a quick search....

The hopeful are betting on the M50i going into production in Aug 2019 as a 2020 model year. This is what is stated in the "new model pipeline" thread, FWIW.

The same rumors also say it may be another hear before we see it stateside because it wouldn't be in their best interest to have a limited run of the 50i. They've done this before with other models so it wouldn't be something abnormal

Not really just buy a 50i. The M50i will carry a higher premium and honestly I'd just buy an X5M at that point

That theory does not necessarily hold true. Example; The all new 2006 E90 330i was a one year model. For the 2007 model year the E90 335i replaced the 330i. Two vastly different engines.. N52B30 (330) vs N54B30 (335).

No more of a premium than a 50i equipped with M Sport Pkg. The current 50i engine is being phased out amongst all V8 BMWs.

correct, but it doesn't mean they won't keep it for another year. No one really knows how this will play out. Honestly they should've released the updated engine up front for both the 40i and 50i

I disagree. M550i is no where near the cost of an M5. M50i will be similarly priced to the 50i with usual model year price adjustments.

optioned to what the M5 has standard it comes pretty close. Hell, you can option one up $100k+ while the M5 can hit $120k+ the difference isn't that large considering the price

This boils down to behind the wheel impressions of power. Current 50i is a honest 4.3sec to 4 second 0-60mph SUV. You are going to pay significantly more $$$ to shave 1/2 second off that time with the next X5M. We are now at a performance level that is such overkill even for the most sporting driver in a full size SUV. It’s like pounding a nail in with a 10lbs or 12lbs sledge hammer. How ever you look at it it’s accomplishing the same effect. The Jeep Track Hawk shot a bullet across the X5M’s nose but Jeep has nothing to loose by doing this. It’s a outdated platform and a significantly less vehicle as a total package. Horsepower wars are a one dimensional view point that are best left for the kids.

The my19 g05 launched with the n63tu2, the new n63tu3 will be the new m50i or is there going to be another engine?? From below i was reading it as the m50i getting through new N63B44M3.

FYI, the just announced 2020 750 LCI has the updated engine from the all new 850. The exact engine that we will see in the V8 G05 come fall of 2019.

It’s coming and the writing is on the wall. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...s-photos-info/

As before, the lineup starts with a six-cylinder 740i model and tops out with a V-12 M760i model, and both of those engines are unchanged. The next-rung-up 750i, though, gets the same updated twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 from the 8-series; it makes 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, increases of 80 hp and 74 lb-ft. All-wheel drive is now standard on the 750i, making the base 740i the only rear-wheel-drive 7-series left.

my19 g05 (CURRENT x50i) is using the tu3-N63B44M3 engine (456hp)
M50i will be using tu3-N63B44T3 engine (523hp)

What do us early adopters of X5 5.0 will get from BMW as the compensation for missing 80 HP?

How about a complementary BMW i3 - it has about 80 HP
Or more likely - 2 day M performance school certificate in south Carolina or CA - free of charge

Do't make us have Buyers remorse Retributions from BMW are in order

For the same money:

We missed

- Key card not included with early builds
- Driving Assistance plus instead of pro missing Trafic Jam assist
- Under powered engine by 80 HP
- NO alcantra headliner
- NO full leather
- No M badge on the butt
- Sky lounge roof? with disco LEDs
- dealing with software bugs and constant updates

Most of that stuff I don't care for. I really don't want the M50i unless they make the suspension less harsh than my M40i. There's a reason I'm not waiting for it to come out. I do want the sky lounge but can easily live without it.
