First BMW, 2020 X5 xDrive 40i M Sport

After years of wanting one, I finally put the order in for a 2020 X5. Tartufo had been my choice of interior color but not around for 2020 for now, so I compromised in that aspect on my build.

This is my build:
2020 X5 xDrive 40i
  • Arctic Gray
  • Black Extended Merino Leather
  • Aluminum Tetragon Trim
  • Driver Assistance Professional Package
  • Luxury Seating Package
  • M Sport Package
  • 22" Bi-Color Wheels (includes space saver spare)
  • 2-axel Air Suspension (includes integral active steering)
  • Executive Package
  • M Sport Brakes
  • Front and Rear Heated Seats
  • Heated Front Seat Armrest and Steering Wheel
  • Leather Dashboard
  • Bowers & Wilkins Sound System
  • Acoustic Glass

MSRP: $85,300 + $995 Destination Fee
Dealer Discount: 8.1% off MSRP

The company I work for is also part of the corporate discount program but 2020's are not included in that as of now, so the discount could change if that changes or there are are any incentives when it gets to the dealer in September. I also got the rubber front, rear and trunk mat thrown into the deal at no extra charge. If incentives show up for when I pick it up, I could end up at around 10% off MSRP.

All in all I am very happy where I came in at for a 2020 custom order. Now the waiting begins...

Any chance you've gotten a production number yet, or a build week #?

Thanks!

I have a production number and it is scheduled for production. I just asked for the build week, they did not send me that. I am able to add it to BMW's tracking site and per dealer fashion there is one option that was not selected right, so just asked them to fix it or I would not accept the car when it comes in.

I'm very curious as to when the first 2020's are slated to actually be built and released to end users. I'm moving my X3 this week, was planning on a 2019 order, but it looks like 2020 is the only configurable option I have. If we're talking early-mid sept. a 2020 is fine, but if we're talking late Sept/Oct. I don't think I can be without an SUV for that long.

Mind sharing the option that caused you some concerns? I'm scheduled to sit to spec my order this upcoming Saturday, and am hearing different feedback on if the allocations are even in the dealer system for configuration yet.

Did you actually sit to spec the car and see the digital system available for 2020 spec, or just send the SA a list of your option codes and he confirmed that to be the order?

I was told to expect early to mid September delivery. I am in no rush, so it would not matter to me either ways. If the dealer you are going through has allocations, which they all should at this point, then it will probably be a September delivery .

The option they screwed up is the interior trim. They added a wood option and I want the aluminum tetragon option. Everything else was what I selected.

The way I did it was my SA printed out the 2020 price guide and we highlighted all the options that I wanted. They used that to submit the order. Once the order was in, I confirmed all my selections in the BWM site when I was given the production number.

Great build. Very close to what I intend to order this fall. Did you ask your dealer about financing through BMW FS to get that incentive?

There are no incentives for 2020 X5 right now. I will be able to take advantage of any incentives that become available for it between now and when I pick it up.

Like you I waited years to buy my first BMW. Not because I couldn’t afford it but because my brother kept talking me out of one. Well I finally told him to F off and couldn’t be happier! Will be keeping mine and ordering a 2020 for the wife soon.

Yes, third row was an option in the order guide. I don't like the 21 wheels so opted for no third row.

I had offers from all but one dealer in the Atlanta area. All the others gave me great offers. I would say start off with one and with that reach out to the others and see what they can do. It will take some back and forth until you reach the number you want to be at. One of them will want your business.

That's awesome! The wait for me was that the X5 did not have the tech the others did. But now it caught up, so here we are. I'm super excited about it.

Not our first BMW, but very similar builds, except one is Ametrin and one Arctic Grey, with the matte poplar trim and 20" AS RF. Added Full Merino, Extended Shadowline Trim, Night Vision, Luggage Package and glass controls. And they left out the spare on one, but not a biggie w/RF, and could always add later. Expected delivery around early September.

Assuming conquest and fleet will be same as for 2019 models, $750 conquest + $1000 BMWCCA is better than $1150 fleet discount because you're not eligible for BMWCCA if you use fleet incentive. My employer is also part of corporate discount program but I'll take conquest if available when my 2020 order arrives.

No conquest or FS rebate available for 2020 X5 in July.

This is good to know. I am expecting for some incentives by September when it arrives. If I can get the conquest, the BMWCCA and the finance incentives I will be an even happier owner.

That is a great build! Gray has always grabbed my attention in cars, so that is my typical go to color. Almost did white but when parked side by side the gray one stood out as expected. One question for you if you have your production number and have looked at the BMW tracking site, is the interior trim listed as matte poplar trim? Mine is not listed as what I ordered but dealer says that it is fine in their system. As much as I want to trust them, I dont want to wait the 2 months for it to show up with the wrong interior trim.

Not sure why there would be since production doesn’t even start until August.

Arctic Grey seemed like an unusual and unique grey, although it seems to be pretty popular - got the Extended Shadowline trim as an option, so I'm interested to see what the whole package looks like! This is the list under M Sport Package on my Tracker:

2-axle air suspension
20" M wheel 740M w/ as rft
Aerodynamic kit
Alcantara headliner
Brown Poplar Wood Trim
Leather Dashboard
M steering wheel
Roof rails in High-gloss
Shadowline exterior trim
Sport Automatic Transmission

I did notice the trim is listed as "Brown Poplar Wood Trim," but my dealer and the BMW reps assure me that's BMW-speak for the matte trim, and no other "poplars" are listed in the configurator.

Yes that's the matte trim. Mine said the same thing. Let us know your thoughts on the alcantara headliner. It was not available for my build, and I'm interested to hear of its quality for any future buys.

My order finally got corrected. I guess they did have to change something after all. I was not just the crazy customer.

I am curious to see what the extended shadowline trim will include. I was going to add that to mine but decided against it. I will likely be going with the cerium gray grille instead, but will decide once I have the car.
