In the owner’s manual they have a section under emergency stop. You can set up “active PDC with breaking intervention”. I have drive assistance pro and don’t have this setting

It should be automatically activated when in reverse. I also see this:
General information:
This function may not be available. Contact your authorized dealer’s service center or another qualified service center as to whether this additional function is currently in your vehicle or when it can be installed in your vehicle in the future.

Yes. I may have cracked this code. In the manual it states “activate PDC with braking interv.”

Mine does not show “with braking interv”. I have Parking Assistant Plus.

This looks like a possible late build/firmware add on.

Can someone else check this under your setting?
It’s under this:

This may be a one more feature that needs to be programmed in by dealer or firmware.

FYI: this forum is priceless figuring this stuff out for everyone. Knowing if your vehicle will stop automatically might be a important feature for everyone to know if they have or if it’s working.

Same. I don't have "with breaking intervention" either

I don't have with braking intervention either, mine is a December build with Driver Assistance Pro with Traffic Jam assist - the ZDY package and I have the Parking Assist Package and mostly all the tech packages, so seems it just is not available on the X5. One of the guys when I ordered cross traffic would not auto brake when backing up like most of the other BMW models that have it, but thought it would be a software updates in the near future, weird that it doesn't have it when like a regular 5 series car has had that for a while now.

Are we sure it doesn't support it or if it's another software issue? Truly disappointed if it's not available....?

I traffic yesterday I nearly rear-ended the car in front of me, going about 5-10mph. Was looking over my shoulder to shift lanes. I stopped with about an inch left and the vehicle gave me zero indication that a collision was imminent.

I feel like this is a serious safety concern.. I know for years we have lived without this feature but we also didn't have people instagramming while driving 10 years ago.

Honestly first thing I thought of was my one year old daughter after the three "almost accidents" I've had since taking delivery. I feel like returning the car.... If this is a "software issue" it should have been the first thing fixed instead if the f****** weather widget.

Wasn't the feature advertised?

Is it just me and I'm blowing this way out of proportion.. or does anyone else agree???

Ok this is a MAJOR CONCERN.
This car should have frontal collision warning with mitigation at city and highway speeds. It should give a visual, then audible, then begin deceleration by "preconditioning" the brakes...in other words it starts to apply breaks. I've also read varying comments that if you are going fast...closing the distance rapidly...it will brake harder.

We need to figure this out. Does everyone have the correct boxes checked. The only way to deactivate frontal collision warning is by inactivating ALL intelligent safety systems. Or so it's supposed to be.

So the question is, what minimum speed does the collision mitigation apply brakes? Obviously it won’t at parking lot speeds.

All of my incidents have been at highway speeds 40-70mph.

I called BMW Tech via 800 number. These vehicle are suppose to apply emergency braking intervention at parking lot speeds of it detects a obstacle. We have discovered a MAJOR omission that needs to be addressed. He needs owners of this to contact the dealer so dealer tech can open case.

In my merc you get a red triangle warning on instrument panel, then an audible warning and if you don't brake it does. Often get the red triangle if travelling on motorway and car overtakes me and pulls in front. Had a land rover for 24 months before the merc, it was fitted with the auto braking but never had any warnings of any type in that.

If you're using the radar cruise it will come to stop at highway speeds, so it does have the technical ability.

Looking at the website Driving Assistant Pro package, "Emergency Stop Assistant to bring the vehicle to a stop in case of a health emergency; and Evasion Assistant to assist in critical approach situations by reacting to vehicles and pedestrians in front of you."

Under standard features, "BMW's Active Protection System detects imminent accidents, then prepares by automatically pretensioning safety belts, closing windows and moonroof, and activating post-crash braking; includes Fatigue and Focus Alert feature" . So after a crash it'll brake, so we've got that going for us... which is nice.

Video under the user manual section of BMW for owners site says starts breaking which you can finish yourself.

I don't see anywhere where is says will stop. Did we read what we wanted to hear?

That is a good idea. Please let me know how it goes. The auto bracing comes with my Q7.

Obviously use a towel or soft item so if your bumper touches it, it won’t cause any harm. I have always used a kids pop-up play tent.

It comes with everything from a Subaru, Kia, Jeep to Explorer. There is no Euro “5 star” safety rating without it. The BMW X5 was tested and received a 5 star rating so there is a major software omission. BMW tech recommends those with a new G05 to contact their dealer so they can test and open a case. One tragic incident will destroy the reputation of a new vehicle with something stupid like this.
