After owning the newer car with coasting option, I've enjoyed more than 70 miles free rolling per refill - contributing to around 500 miles per refill vs 350 on my 2009 X5 30i.

I'm certainly impressed by the fuel economy of this car. But then came this question: Should the coasting distance count towards the odometer mileage?

When you tow a car, the car's odometer doesn't increase during the travel (and you still have wheels rolling). Odometer also doesn't increase when the car is stationary while engine is still running.

What do you think about this measurement method? On the contrary, I think the usage of current odometer rating to value car's usage/depreciation is quite inaccurate since stationary idling engine still contribute to the car's wear..
