That looks like the black mirror frame vs the cap. You can buy the replacement part but it only comes primed which is a pain. To complete the repair it would need full paint service, not so easy to do at home. Although you might not get charged an arm and a leg to have it done by a good paint shop since its small. The trouble is figuring out what paint. I think its jet black with a heavy dose of clear.
Replacing it yourself is probably a 30 min job if you have the right tools. First you need to remove the mirror by hand (it’s clipped in). Then You need to take off the mirror cap with body panel removers. Then remove the sensors and motors. Lots of little clips so be careful. Physical replacement is easy, I think it’s a couple torx bolts. How do I know? On my f15 I smashed mine carelessly pulling out of the garage. Dealer wanted a cool grand to replace it. |

Have you looked up the part in one of the online part databases yet (like www.realoem.com)? If you haven't...it looks like it's #4 in the diagram...and you can see how all the parts fit together.
Since I don't know your VIN, thus don't know how your X5 is optioned...if you type in the last 7 digits of your VIN to pull up the diagram...you should be able to find the mirror parts you need based on how your vehicle is optioned. If a part doesn't work for your car...it is usually grayed out or not listed in the part nbr index (but sometimes it is...so you should also know your options/option codes).

My guess for this part is that only BMW will have it since its not a common wear or replacement item. Several BMW dealerships advertise online, just do a search. |

Always ask for a discount. The parts dept. can discount at least 10-20% and they do it all the time for body shops and ind. mechanics. I have found that w/ the discount, the pricing is about the same as ordering off the internet from an out of state dealership. BTW, I broke the camera in my side mirror on a pillar in my parking garage. First time using the reverse assistance and I didnt notice that mirror was too close to the pillar, bam. |

I can tell you that for certain 100% that #4 in the realoem diagram is the part you need, get the part number and make sure you get it for the correct side. No need to paint or anything. Its also relatively cheap, I paid something like $30? I also ordered directly from my parts at my dealer
