Which brakes are these

So I picked up my wife’s new US spec X5 xDrive45e yesterday and it has these brakes. These look identical to the M sport brakes on my Z4 M40i. They are 4 piston calipers and Brembo style but unpainted. It is an xLine and has the trailer hitch. I’ve only seen one other 45e and it had the M sport package so I don’t know what the normal brakes look like.

I believe that the M-Sport brakes are either blue or red so these must be regular brakes.

Thanks for the info. It was a pleasant surprise that it had the upgraded brakes. I debated getting the m sport package just for the brakes, but glad I didn’t now.

Here's a G05 M Sport with standard (Index A) front brakes.

I have been looking at the m sport also for the better brakes. If I get the the m sport why doesn’t the tow package price of $550 drop if it includes bigger brakes and are already included with m sport? Am I paying for the bigger breaks twice and is the $650 for blue brakes just for the paint? Seems like the xline with tow package is a much more cost effective way to get the bigger brakes vs buying the m sport. I am getting the tow package on which ever version I decide on and want the most value for the money on functional features over just cosmetics.

When you option the $550 3AC trailer hitch option, you're paying for trailer hardware and upgraded fixed Brembo 4 piston front calipers and slightly larger front lightweight ventilated discs - from 348x30 to 374x36. Rear discs will remain 345x24. Overall pretty good deal - there are additional upgrades such larger air intake for cooling.

Adding $650 2NH in addition to 3AC trailer hitch, you're getting even larger front lightweight ventilated discs - from 374x36 to 395x36, blue or red Brembo fixed 4 piston front calipers and color matched M Sport TRWs, and larger rear discs - from 345x24 to 370x24. While it seems like you're paying for cosmetics with 2NH on top of 3AC, you're getting larger front and rear discs plus the cosmetics. It's still less than upgrading post vehicle purchase. For USA markets, when optioning 3AC do you loose the rear kick, comfort trunk access.

40i Towing package / 50i base: Fixed 4 piston 374x36 + 345x24, lightweight ventilated

Any engine + Option 2NH (Blue or Red) and M50i: Fixed 4 piston 395x36 + 370x24, lightweight ventilated

Thanks Auricom, Good info on brake options. Looks like M sport with blue brakes and the tow package is how I want to configure mine.

Yea if you want the vented and drilled rotors from BMW they are $435 & $355 respectively. I think the non drilled ones are like $250, $150.

Placed an order on g05 it’s already in production , asked dealer what’s the 650$ option for m breaks , he tells me it’s for painting the calibers blue or red he tell me it’s not worth it you can get it cheaper doing it somewhere else . I ask him you sure he replies yes 100% , from doing researches and reading on forum it’s sounds like my dealer just lied to me , what should I tell him now I really wanted the m breaks on my car ?

Up to a point in the production schedule, the dealer can change the order to your desire.

It may just be the dealer didn't know, but he shouldn't spout an answer. It may not have been intentional.

Just picked up 40i yesterday with M-sport brakes - Red 2NH M Sport brakes -[Blue or Red] (Index C).

Do you know if they are supposed to feel a little softer when pressed?

I picked up 530i also with the same M-Sport Red sport brakes but that brakes feels firm.

Interested in knowing who has the same Red brakes on 40i. Thank you

I think everyone's initial experience varies with BMW brakes and M Sport brakes. Mine had an initial softer bite when braking with more travel and pressure required than my previous F15, but overtime they feel more firm with reduce pedal travel after my first maintenance.

Depending on G30 model, there are 2 front M Sport ventilated brake disc sizes equipped: 530i/530i xDrive or 540i/540i xDrive/M550i and all models with 2NH share identical rear M Sport brakes.

530i / 530i xDrive:
Brembo 348 x 36 fixed caliper 2-part 4-piston with bonded brake pads for noise reduction

540i / 540i xDrive / M550i
Brembo 374 x 36 fixed caliper 2-part 4-piston with bonded brake pads for noise reduction

Rear 2NH M Sport brakes:
TRW 345 x 24 Grey cast iron, electric parking brake actuator, greased pad backing plate (Bonded brake pads are not used on the rear axle)

TLDR;
530i / 530i xDrive / 540i / 540i xDrive / M550i will have similar front Brembo fixed 4 piston Brembos and TRW rears as BMW X5s with towing/3rd row and 2NH M Sport brake option but smaller discs front and rear

530i / 530i xDrive with 2NH M Sport brake option will have equivalent front and rear discs to xDrive40i w/ 3rd row: 348x36 + 345x24, ventilated

540i / 540i xDrive with 2NH M Sport brake option will have equivalent front and rear discs to X5s with Towing package or 50i base: 374x36 + 345x24, lightweight ventilated

X5 xDrive40i with 2NH or X5 M50i will have the largest front and rear discs compared to G30s with 2NH.

As usual, you are a wealth of useful information. Thanks for posting all of this.

While you're at it can you post what the different options are for the X7?

Since the G05 forms the basis for the G07, below are the technical brake specs by model and options:

*Differences between G05 and G07 models are in bold

X7 xDrive40i:
Fixed 4 piston front 348x36 + rear 345x24, lightweight ventilated

Towing package or MY19-20 xDrive50i:
Fixed 4 piston front 374x36 + rear 370x24, lightweight ventilated

X7 xDrive40i / MY19-20 xDrive 50i + option 2NH (MY19-21 Blue or MY21 Black):
Fixed 4 piston front 395x36 + rear 370x24, lightweight ventilated

X7 M50i with standard 2NH (Blue or MY21 Black):
Fixed 4 piston front 395x36 + rear 398x28, lightweight ventilated

TLDR;
X7 xDrive40i standard brakes uses same specs as X5 xDrive40i with 3rd row option: Fixed 4 piston front 348x36 + rear 345x24, lightweight ventilated

X7 xDrive40i with Towing package or MY19-20 xDrive50i uses same specs as X5 40i with Towing or MY19-20 X5 xDrive50i front calipers and discs but with equivalent sized 2NH rear discs: Fixed 4 piston front 374x36 + rear 370x24, lightweight ventilated

X7 xDrive40i / MY19-20 xDrive50i with 2NH uses same specs as X5s optioned with 2NH M Sport brakes: Fixed 4 piston front 395x36 + rear 370x24, lightweight ventilated

X7 M50i are equipped with equivalent M Performance Brake Kit as standard without punched disc holes: Fixed 4 piston front 395x36 + rear 398x28, ventilated

I think 45e comes standard with upgraded brakes due to added weight. I noticed the massive discs when i took delivery of mine, and i don’t have the towing package and i don’t have m package, my discs are visibly larger than the regular 40i. If you go to brembo website for spare parts you will see a smaller brake disc option for X5 40i but only the larger one is available for xdrive45e.

Yep, 45e comes standard with towing package equivalent brake set up - upgraded front discs but standard rear:

Towing package or 50i base: Fixed 4 piston Front 374x36 + Rear 345x24, lightweight ventilated

This was answered early on in the OP's post:

I've only seen one other 45e and it had the M sport package so I don't know what the normal brakes look like.
