Vinyl front licence plate in CA
I've come across a decision that lots of people here made. Holes or no holes? Or in general, to put a front license plate or not? Even if it is required in your state. Some just choose not to put anything. So did I at first. But I remembered that I've seen a few Teslas with a sticker instead of the license plate. And it turned out to be a legal alternative specifically for people who don't want to deal with holders and frames. Does anyone from CA have experience with these? Do I have to match the design as well? For example, it would be good to have a black plate in front and a standard white one in the back. Because in front, we have that black panel that will blend in with a plate very well, like in the second picture.

The CA DMV only allows vinyl plates on the fronts of cars; rear plates must still be metal.
You will need to participate in the pilot program and purchase the vinyl plate from licenseplatewrap.com. Cost is $120 + Tax/Shipping on top of the standard plate fees. The vinyl plate will match your rear metal plate - cannot mix/match standard with Legacy, etc. |

Yes that was my only concern. So once I recieve my regular white plates, I need to order black custom plates from DMV, wait for them to arrive and then order a vinyl plate, correct? Or I can do both together, custom and vinyl?
