Nothing like telling friends/family your Mustang or Mopar whatever got gapped by a station wagon
Remains to be seen how well it will actually drive though. It will have the same powertrain setup (I.e. hybrid) as the XM…so it won’t be lightweight!

I think the X5M is better overall value for money given how expensive the RS6 options are. In my condo there is a guy who has a blue one with the carbon fiber etc and it totally stands out just from a exterior styling perspective…

I had an '06 S4 Avant with the rare 6MT - loved that car. I'd be very tempted to go wagon over SUV, as others have already said, the driving characteristics are totally different - get the advantage of car-like handling and extra cargo space w/ a wagon. I wish they brought more of them to the US... but as was the case with discontinuing many of them here, there's just not much of a market for them - US consumer has a clear SUV bias imo.

Ultimately though, it would be my intended use case for either that would make the decision for me.

BMW Canada's attempt to generate interest in the M5 wagon is strange as they would probably only sell 10 a year in Canada. However, if they would bring in a non-M 5 series Touring wagon, I would buy one tomorrow.

PunsGalore why did you have to go and post this? Now you’ve got me thinking I’d go for a MY '23 RS6 Avant. Several low mileage ones out there in the $105–$120k range. Nardo gray is my color of choice. Eventually a plug-in hybrid power train will seriously fup the driving characteristics IMO.

Exactly. We drove an XM recently at the dealership and I was less than impressed with the experience. I was expecting it to be quicker and pull harder than it did.

Haha. I know I’d rather have an RS6 Avant over a M60i - I’m just so torn between an X5 M Competition and the RS6. Both have their pros and cons.. I must say I like BMW more as a brand, but the RS6 is definitely Audis best car

Agree, I wasn’t too impressed with the XM either when I drove it. I’ve heard the XM Label is definitely better though, which the M5 will get a slightly detuned version of so there is some hope at least.

This does raise an interesting question of why would they do it? Considering the range of new and complex vehicles being introduced in the next few years (ICE, Electric, PHEV's) how many technicians are actually available in Canada and the US that have the training to maintain and fix all these vehicles (eg. X5 50e).

I have a problem-free 45e but it seems that I know more about my car from this forum, than the sales or parts guy at the dealership. And this isn't a criticism...just Boeing type world of complexity.

Is adding a wagon, M Series or otherwise, worth their effort?

Why would the wagon be any more complex than the sedan? It isn’t like the wagon is getting a different powertrain than the sedan…

I’m weirdly in the same predicament. I have an 18 m3 and it’s time for something new. It’s actually between an x5m and rs6. However the rs6 I would purchase not lease. The resale on the rs6 is unmatched…I’ve noticed the rs6, rsq8, and rs7 have very strong resale value vs some of bmw m products. I keep my vehicles for many years…no longer a fan of leasing…just my 2 cents.

The RS6 makes sense because it’s in a category by itself. The RSQ8 sort of makes sense because I think SUV’s hold value pretty decently. I wonder why the RS7 holds so well though, relative to BMW
