45e or 40i
Which one you ordered and why? Interested in your POV.
I need to replace two leases in December. Deciding which one I should order? One of each..LOL? Little history - had both x35i (which was great car) and current 40e, which is POS. So hesitant to repeat the same PHEV mistake. |

X5 45e has the $7,500 tax credit.
AWD comes standard on it, $2,300 option PHEV options costs $3,700 Combined that is $6,000 So with the $7,500 tax credit, it is actually cheaper to buy the x45e version. And now that it has a 6 cylinder engine also, the HP is higher on the x45e version. Reviews all indicate that BMW got it right on the 45e. |

45e gets better fuel economy especially if you can plug in overnight, comes with air suspension as standard, and clocks the same 0-60 as the 40i. If you plan on buying/financing and qualify for the full federal tax credit then it is cheaper than the 40i too. In my case (full federal tax credit plus $4k state tax credit) the 45e is a no brainer...

OP, can you elaborate on why you don't like your 40e? With you saying that, maybe a 40i would be the best route. But the reasons you find it a pos may be fixed depending on your answers.

Has anyone driven the 45e and 40i back to back? I'm curious on this as well. Do they drive similarly (i.e. similar performance and feel)? I love the motor on the 40i and it's more than adequate as a family hauler, and butter smooth. I'm wondering if I lose anything with the 45e.

If you can get all the tax breaks and finance the e seems like it would be a better deal. If you lease you would have to do the math for your specific situation and see if it would be worth the extra dough(I am not exactly sure how the credit shakes out with leases, that would be a question for one of my guys like Jimmy Miller, I dont stay on top of that stuff). Both are great, from a dealer side I will say that I personally think that the e may yield a little better resale down the road just bc it seems that is the direction people/companies are leaning moving forward. We have seen a large demand for the e the past few months for what its worth. Both are great, I personally ordered a 40i for my demo, but I would have been more then happy with the e as well, especially since I drive about 10 miles a day on avg so I would rarely ever have to buy gas

Porsche's E-Hybrid technology in the Cayenne seems pretty good, but not as efficient, could also be an interesting choice. |

I hadn't considered the 45e, just figured the 40i was the logical choice.
With this months incentives being better (.9 vs 1.9 financing), and $1k fleet only available on the 45e, plus tax credits, the 45e winds up being almost $9k cheaper by my math. That's real money. I don't see the downside for the $9k savings, might have to get the 45e... |

Nice build. Not sure how anyone can go wrong w/ the 45e given its added range and the new (old) ICE power plant - its really teh best of both worlds IMO, particularly when you factor in the $ 7500 tax credit.
So assuming your dealer will let you pick 1 of the 2 - that's a great dealer to be working with! GL Aceman |

I debated between the two. Ended up ordering a 40i. I really liked both. The extra low end torque from the 45e was nice in city driving. However as weird personal preference I like the feel of the steel springs over the air suspension myself. Only able to option the 45e with air. That and the extra cost for the 45e and cost for installing a charger in the garage pushed me to the 40i. Leasing so wouldn't see the tax rebate.

I have x5 45e and love it.
Although i have to state my main reason was money. 45e is 13k (€) cheaper than 40i and 22k cheaper than 30d so it was a no brainer. I am very curious if anyone has driven 40i and 45e back to back and feel if the battery weight makes difference. For the same price I would buy the 40i with 7 seats (just because i think 7 seats should be cool) |
