Steering wheel column

Hey guys. Kind of strange I just noticed that on my steering wheel there is a flap on the top between the wheel and the Odomoter that can lift up very easily and I can see inside the steering column. I assume that shouldn’t be the case? I also hear some kind of rubbing when I turn hard left. Anyone experience this?

I'm also noticing a rubbing noise when I turn in one direction. Made an appointment with the dealer to get it resolved.

Mine does the same, but I assume it is by design and there are hinges to aid in it being moved. I'm guessing for easy access to something during service, etc. It's clearly on purpose, but I don't know that the purpose is for the consumer.

The flap is normal, the loaner 5 series and my 7 series have it. The sound? Not normal.
