If it was purely a Toyota built in the last decade, probably not.

Like I said, I just need to stop thinking about what's going to happen in 2 years because there's just way too many variables. Need to just enjoy what I have now P.S. I don't know why people are even worrying about this auto rev match thing. It can be turned off and so many new MT cars have it now anyway.

For me it's quite simple. If I cannot get a discount on it, if dealers want me to pay a markup, then I'll just get the M4. No sense buying the M2 if the markup is anything close to the M4.

Also would say: 1)price 2)missing true M car bits (LSD, seats, weight, etc.) 3)color combos - may sound cheesy but this one has to be just right.

1. >3400 lb (I'd love to see 3300)
2. No MT (which is one reason, thought not the only one, that the RS3 is not in the running) 3. Rev matching that you can't opt out of (and it needs to have the ability to start up with it off - I don't want to have to deselect it every drive) 4. Comfort mode default every start - it's an M for crying out loud. 5. Not having a more aggressive steering program than the M235 6. > $55k with decent options (not fully loaded, but with a few options) Re: the Golf R: Would you seriously cross-shop these? One thing about any model of Gold (the R's, the GTI, etc) that has always kept me from seriously considering them is the fact that I think they are butt-ugly. Am I the only one who thinks they still have the same bread-box look they've had for 30 years only with more rounded corners now? I am a VW fan. I've owned four of them, but never a Golf variant of any kind, because it could drive like a lamborghini, but I would still not buy it because they are simply ugly. |

It shouldn't be as limited as the 1M but I'm definitely not paying OVER ED MSRP. Since I'm doing PCD, I'll mass email all 320 BMW dealers if I have to to get the best deal. Otherwise I'd probably look into an M3/M4. |

What vantagesc said....which was very well stated. I'd add an interior note. If it isn't anything over and above the current 2er, then I'll pass. Apologies to the handling purists but if I'm paying premium dollars (and I will be because we love to do this in Canada) then I'll expect a bit more refinement on the inside. You know...for those moments when I'm sitting at a red light or something equally boring.

Massaged N55 - aka, no real upside over the one in the 235
No effort at weight savings Lack of expanded color choices Lack of "manic" personality - it should improve on where the 1M left off

Cayman only forces you to rev-match in its equivalent of sports plus On regular and sport there is no rev-matching I don't like driving everywhere in sports plus. The best solution would be just to have it on/off like the Stingray. |

I don't think that there is anything that would keep me from getting this car. Unless something drastic happens in the next year and a half that would cause me to spend the money that I have saved or I win the lottery and can buy a GT3RS.

What would keep me from buying an M2?
Buying a Cayman GTS now because the M2 is unavailable and I don't want to wait anymore for something worth buying...

The only 'thing' that'd extinguish my interest in an M2 would be a blatant effort, by ///M, to hold the M2 back to protect the M3/M4.
Again, the M2 should be raw, aggressive and unapologetic. If you need balance, great news - buy an M3/M4. Clearly if you can afford an M2, you could most likely 'ramp up' to the next level. Either way, I'm pretty sure no one here will be disappointed.

I have had friends with GTIs who loved them, and the whole line gets nothing but great reviews. And like I said, I've owned 4 VWs, so I am a fan of the brand. I just wish they would step up their game on aesthetics. If I could get over the looks of the Golf series, I would already own one. |

Each of these seperately would make that I skip an M2 for sure:
