My dad has taken up the hobby of making musky lures and asked for a mold to make lead weights. Best educated guess at how deep each needed to be for the weight he wanted lol. I'd like to etch a musky into the top, but I know it would turn out like crap.

Can also see in the back the socket organizer I made for the tool box a couple weeks ago. I dont ever want to make one of those again.

Nice!

What are the details on the socket organizer? Looks like you hid everything really well. Just a bunch of "floating" sockets.

Fantastic! Is that for molten lead?

I dabbled with some at home metal casting a few years back when I needed a custom mounting bracket for the clutch cable on the motorcycle I built. Nothing on the market came close to what I wanted so I had a buddy draw it up in Solidworks. We 3D printed the mold seed, then I cast it from brass in a clay mold like you would cast jewelry. Came out better than I hoped!

I wanted to have that quick visual reference for the sizes so I used 1/4" MDF and those cheap Harbor Freight socket organizers and cut the posts off. Determined the placement I wanted, drilled holes that were the dia of the socket organizer posts, cut the posts with a dremel and then glued them in place. It didnt come out as clean as I wanted, but it works. I might just drill holes for the sockets to set in and get rid of the posts (didnt have posts for all sizes, and they dont all sit the same height and I'm OCD).

Yeah he bought a kit to melt and pour lead. Not sure how long the alum will hold up and how easy/difficult the lead will release, but we can revamp later if needed.

I'm a 5S/Lean Manufacturing guy. What did you use for the socket organizer? Is that shadow foam?

Talking

I have four escape windows from the basement in my home and yesterday I fabricated a cover for one of them. Today, I'll be making the other two (the first one I made many months ago but I did not like the design so I re-did it for these last three...)

I'll be finishing them with a rust-proof (lol) black paint...

Nice work! Are you going to secure them from the well, too?

Finally came up with a way to mount my MTB to my swing out. Have to mount it there to gain access to the cargo area since I’ve got a split hatch with a tail gate. Plus I’ve got a drawer system, and I don’t want to have to disassemble the bike mount each time I want in to get some gear.

Made some custom bolts and modified the swingout to accept a pintle mount. Counterbored some jam nuts in to fasten the carriage bolts on T slot. Used barrel nuts (with tamper proof bits) to align the flush mounts to the pintle mount and bored the receiver to accept a locking pin. A lot of moving pieces to get it all together for what it is, but I have it designed to just pull the lock pin and it comes right out. Real happy with how it turned out; we’ll just have to see if I get used to the added length.

Cottage furniture

We bought a little 800sq ft cottage in the mountains recently and I found 4 planks of old pine in the crawlspace.

I made 3 tables so far, one is pictured, used to hold the amp for the stereo.

I also made a table from a sample of the corrugated pipe we make at work for outside.

Figured i'd use the flip up door area for something; universal cell holder. Door flips up and goes to home position proper. Made notch outs on top piece for button clearance.

*I know it may take away from the overall look of the door...but needed another cell holder solution.

current project i'm working on is building a custom bookshelf in the office

framing it out

baseboards!

crown moulding installed

now onto the shelves!

finally got the top piece for the crown moulding done

shoe moulding installed for the baseboard

and now framing vertical boards with smaller 1.75" trim pieces

so tomorrow i should have the horizontal trim pieces installed on the shelves. i'll post pictures when that's done. after that all that's left is filling in all the nail holes, sand and paint!

I still cant believe you have:

A) Time for all these house projects
B) Anything left to do in that house! You must have about 30 rooms in that place.

Awesome work as always. Screw that fake ass hack Bob Villa, YOU need your own home improvement show!

BTW, what's with the upside down outlet?

Wonder if you could fabricate a hinge on that system to allow you to swing the bike right by 90 degrees to have it tuck up against the rear of the rig?

I keep forgetting to ask you, are those Bridgestone KO2s on there? I put a set on the FJ and love them.

I hadn't considered a hinge. I'll have to take some measurements and see if I could benefit from having that pivot flexibility. Nice thought!

While it wasn't the original intent, I feel this iteration should be considered a proof of concept at this point. In my mind, this was going to be a one-and-done project, but I've now realized that the original design just pushes the bike out too far and a change is needed. It's fine for me to bust the bike over to a local trail a few miles out, but I'll be taking it with me on long trips, too. Cringing at the thought of running into WalMart on a trip to find my shattered bike in the parking spot. If there was such thing as a pintle mount that had a mounting plate 90° from current, I'd be in the money. I had looked at the receiver mounted winch mounts which are exactly what I need, but they are clearly designed for smaller winches with their plate size and won't work for my design (that I've seen at least).

I know exactly what I want and can design it ultra easy. I could make a cheap 90° adapter, but I don't want to introduce a new failure point with my beloved bike being the consequence. Problem is, my fabrication relationships are all hundreds of miles away and can already foresee this being a "pintle mount" that will cost 4x original. Regardless of cost, I'm too invested at this point and it will just have to be a custom design - which is fine AND fun, just sucks that I have everything I need, just angled wrong

To make it worthwhile, I'll be adding some new fasten points to mount a couple recovery boards and/or Hi-Lift opposite the bike. Oh how things unravel...

Tires are actually BFG KM3s in 315/75-16. They've been fantastic and do much better on the highway than I would have anticipated with their aggressive mud tread design. That said, for my use, I think a KO2 would be better suited. I guess I got caught up in the idea of some of my previous rigs that were much more dedicated (read trailered). More miles are paved than not for this rig - A/T would have been a better decision.
