Show them (insurance co.) a copy of the BMW Service Bulletin - it spells out exactly what needs to be replaced - if driven more than 5 miles - pretty much everything...

Just a pick up truck. We also had to leave the trucks running for the entire winter. If we shut them off and left them overnight, it would not restart till spring.

Luckily oil changes could be done inside, so we could actually shut them off then.

Very different world I guess.

Well it turns out I don't really know what BMW says needs to be done. Does anyone here know of a source to get that information? Local dealer says " BMW has no policy or procedure regarding mis fueling, just bring it in & we'll see what we can do" . Perfect

My understanding is gas doesn't lubricate like diesel so significant wear occurs on the entire fuel system. This leads to fine metal particulates that can't easily be removed. That means any part not replaced can contaminate the new parts. A complete system replacement is the only sure fix. Bad deal but at least it's not of your doing, and supplier should pay for the whole enchilada.

I had a mis fuel on International Scout diesel with Nissan marine industrial engine straight 6 turbocharged that ended up with a cracked cylinder head.
