Red Mist Descending: NISMO 350Z

With all this talk of the 1er being a "GT" and a "softie" I find myself browsing Nissan's NISMO 350Z website more than usual.

You'd have to get past the looks and the lack of a back seat, but everything else about the Z looks pretty damn nice, especially the $38,070 asking price.

I would love to see a performance comparison between the 1er and the Z. I feel the red mist descending and a trip to the Nissan dealer is starting to sound like a good idea.

Rice. Nuff said. Don't imagine a 135i is going to be a softie in any department.

Drive the 135i first before accepting the opinion of ONE reviewer that the car is "soft."

Why would you compare a 2 seat, no trunk sports car to a 4 seat coupe with a trunk?

Why wouldn't you? Performance and price are very similar. If you don't need the back seat or the trunk, then the comparison is perfectly valid.

+1 what 1ster said.

I want two seats and about 13 cu ft of storage (wherever they place it) - the Cayman S, which I've strongly considered purchasing, will do that (at an inflated price).

So I get a 135i, much cheaper and maybe a reasonable approximation of the Porsche's driving dynamics (but the first reviews cast some doubt on that hope ; -).

The two extra seats in back? Who cares.

And to return to the thread, I've considered a 350Z and have been looking at the Nismo version. It's been awhile since I've driven the 350z and I wasn't thrilled with it - I've heard they've cleaned up some the initial handling issues though - maybe it's time to drive one again.

If you don't need a back seat, and can afford a Cayman S. Well. You need to go drive one if you haven't. It's fun as hell to drive.

Yes I have and they are great - and some of the initial descriptions of the 135i lead me to believe that the it won't come as close to it in performance as I'd hoped. But man, even the inflated guesstimates of the 135i's price make it look like a steal compared to a Cayman. If only it'll deliver about 85% or better of the Cayman's driving dynamics.

The finance committee (She Who Must Be Obeyed ; -) has tacitly authorized a Cayman purchase but I'm a bit of a Scot at heart - the value proposition of the 135i may be the decider. (And as thick as the fanboix are around BMWs you outta see the Porschephiles. ; -)

Isn't whether or not a car is considered a "softie" mostly based on track times?
Check out the popular track times for the stock 335i, they are definately not "soft". With a lighter oner, with stiffer springs, and a more tossable, shorter wheelbase, the oner will beat the 335i on the high speed tracks, and put it down harder on the short low speed tracks. Anyways, there's always a "chip" for FI engine, that will change everything significantly.

I have a pretty moddifed 35th ann model Z.. I love the car.. Bang for buck its proven to be more then worth the buck... it can be made to be rice but tasteful modding (like in every car) can be done.. the 1 will no doubt be faster though.. (sadly lol) at the moment a stock 335 coupe pulls on me till about 3rd (top end). I work for BMW so im a little torn between the cars, to be honest.. the Nissan feels more raw (in a good way, if you know what i mean?) but the smooth power of the Bimmer has its plus's.

My car..
