I really liked driving a hatch. It's really easy to parallel park because you can clearly see where the car ends and the utility is stellar (folding down the seats). The trunk is also not as small as you'd think. I found it completely usable.

Didn't realize you were in a GTI now. It maybe just me, but the Golf R seems a little too close and would bore me. Otherwise I do like hatches very usable.

He's in a GLI (Jetta-based version of GTI).

I would take a hatch over a sedan any day of the week. I find them very practical and most have a lot more head room if you carry back seat passengers. You get a lot of room out of a small car.

Ah. Ok well that makes some difference. FWIW the R will hold value better than an S3 (tons out there) or the 340. Not that either are bad cars, they aren't, but purely $-wise you'll lose less on the R. The 2008 ones are still holding very well. 3-series, well there are just a ton of those out there.

I like how sedans look better, generally speaking, but the hatchback makes dealing with traffic, parking, and loading things a breeze.

Yeah the manual cars seem to have issues with clutch slip when upping the power. Doesn't affect the DSG cars, though.

Kind of typical for VW, the clutches are normally only good for 50whp or so above stock power.

Love the R. If they didn't lease so badly I'd have one as a DD

Not me lol, I have been turbo Joe on all the forums for about 7 years now

But I do have a ton of experience with VWs and have built plenty of them.

As far as showing off to coworkers or anything, my boss drives a beat up 90's Corolla when I'd roll in in either my M3 or '16 MX-5. If you have mutual respect like I do with my boss, it shouldn't matter what you drive, but I understand it's not the same in all fields. The stigma is interpreted in so many ways.

Anyways, I love the R and it's subtle, doesn't scream boy racer, and has plenty of power and agility for everyday use. And yes, I couldn't do the RS either, it screams cheap inside...

Interesting...how does it compare to your M3?

I like it more than the M3. Glad to see the F80 go really. The F80 just felt heavy, and soulless imho. I was bored in it, at least this I can toss in a corner and haul ass and it still is engaged and flat.

Well guys...I figured I'd give you an update. After much thought I bought an S3! I just picked it up yesterday. So far I love it more than any car I've ever driven. Thanks for the help! [IMG][/IMG]

I can't stand sedans/saloons. Such a silly shape with all that wasted boot space and the coupe derived two door saloons are a massive PITA if you have kids.
Has to be hatch or estate for me. Or a proper coupe like a 911.

The M135i is the last RWD hatch with a nice engine (more than four cylinders). Just ticks so many boxes.
If it isn't quick enough, a few tweaks sort that.

I've always driven sedans which is why I opted for the S3. Thanks for the reply!

Nice compromise on the S3! Great car!
I would have gotten that if it wasn't for lack of manual.

But you were worried about coworkers opinions and you have that custom plate? :S

Haha yeah I had that in high school and never changed it. The dealership said I can do it now and I won't lose out on the money I paid so I'm going to look into that

What's LCI?
Face lift. Nothing mechanical I don't think. Virtual cockpit.
