Wiper blades

My G05 is the first BMW i've owned in 18 years that doesn't have free wear item replacement, so I'll be changing wiper blades soon. Any input on OEM vs high end aftermarket?

Bosch! I have the brake/wiper replacement plan. However, I can tell you from experience on previous non-BMW vehicles that Bosch is the bomb. They make a good dishwasher and some damn fine blades!

Wiper blades are very important in my opinion. I want a pair that clean all the water on each pass and don’t make any noise as they sweep across the glass. On a rainy evening the glare of oncoming traffic is difficult enough to endure.
I buy from the BMW dealer and have them install as I know they’ll be excellent but expensive. The incremental cost is worth not having to shop around for an acceptable alternative to save $30-$40.
But then I take good care of them by not using when frozen to the windshield and cleaning them when washing the cars. Most last me several years.

The wipers on the vehicle are junk. I have the Brake and Wiper Replacement, and have already needed 2 new sets. I do not apply any aftermarket things to the windshield or the blades. I've had a new windshield as well due to some recall, but find that in all instances, it's subpar. I've had ceramic coated and non-ceramic coated windshields with the BMW blades and both are a problem. The blades smear, skip, and chatter...it's really a pain in the ass. I get the typical response from the dealership, but I hate driving down just to show them they are causing a problem...only to have them replaced. Rear Blade has no issue, just the front.

Biggest problem is that shitty blades cause issues with the camera up top...at least that's what the dealership tells me. I had the same problem with my previous BMW.

I’m curious, why do you ceramic coat a windshield and do you ceramic coat all windows? I just clean very well (see AMMO) and use rain X.

So I didn’t do it, and it’s my first go around. Looking back, I wish they didn’t do it, since it’s crapped up 2 windshields. I was ok with it on the windshield at first, since I had trouble with the blades chattering and skipping on my last BMW (sedan). Having owned Fords, Volvo’s, and Toyotas prior...this was never a problem. Figured I might benefit from the beading. Nope.

The side windows I think are worth it, since you get the beading and it makes it easier. The windshield, it beads, but I had trouble when the blades were going. A new set didn’t fix it either. I don’t think these windshields last long, as they seem prone to chips and pitting easier than previous vehicles...definitely not going to get it coated next time.

Try cleaning the wiper blade. Spray window cleaner on a section of paper towel and then clean along the rubber blade edge. I don’t use cloth towels as they’ll be filthy.

If not an improvement I suggest you try claying the window.

I am going to try claying it. Did the entire windshield twice, then did the blades with window cleaner and washer fluid.

You might consider watching this or similar video using 0000 steel wool and followup with RainX. I think this was one of the original videos, but many have followed up.

Hey Randy,

Your car got a dishwasher in it? Didn't know it was on the BMW option list ... where does it go?

Anyone know the part number or link for the rear wiper blade (I used Bosch on my Audi, and I agree - da bomb)? Can't seem to find it anywhere for the G05...

Paladin1 ...just saw your post, but I am in the same boat. I don't know if Bosch has updated their parts/descriptions yet. I believe Bosch makes BMW's blades, but I always used the "Clear Advantage" model. I might call up Bosch to see if they have a fitment guide.

Did you get the Driver's Washer Aid Plus Professional Adaptive Cornering Laser Titanium Assistance Package? Might be able to find it on the ConnectedDrive Store! I hear it's only $500/month.

“I’m sorry, I can’t do this while driving”.

Honestly, I read your whole post in the BMW Personal Assistant’s voice. I didn’t think any voice could be worse than Siri. At least I can change her voice! But the BMW one...ah! Plus, I am halfway to my destination by the time I get “Okaaaaaaay, I am setting he temperature to 84 degrees”.

I have. I am going to try "Hey BMW, turn right at the next intersection" and take my hands off the wheel. I wonder if that will work? Will report back!

HELP!! Can't fix wiper.

The passenger side wiper blade does not "wipe" the top half of the sweep. I just replaced the whole blade, not just rubber, on my wifes 2016 X5, with expensive Bosch replacement blade. Dealer replaced the "rubber" only with no lasting success. Can't figure the wiper arm would affect this. Thoughts??
