Mine was like that when I took delivery. I got a credit from BMW which worked out in my favor. Took it into service the next day and they fixed it.

Had it happen to mine when I first got it and havn't had an issue since.

I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I had this happen today and I did as you noted. It worked. Thanks.

Update: dealer snapped it back in place several months ago and it happened again last week. Taking it in next week (to also hopefully fix an issue with backup camera).

For an ongoing record, happened to me as well and I also snapped it back in myself. Vernasca leather for the record.

It doesn't feel like this is a permanent fix and I suspect it will happen again. This seems most likely if one accidentally doesn't fold in the entire length of the plastic runner fold support and leaves a small amount to start running and "unhinge" again. Not a great design for something under constant pressure, but definitely simple and cheap.

I have seen two different X5s with Vernasca leather, exact same thing.

Anyone with merino leather have had this issue?

Since Magna took over Lear, are they doing poor manufacturing and wrinklegate ensued?

Magna did not take over Lear as far as I know. They are still two separate entities. BMW changed seat suppliers for some of their models to Magna, perhaps that is what you are referring to. As far as we know, the supplier has nothing to do with the issues mentioned as they are due to design.

Edit: Forgot to add that some owners with Merino have reported the same problem. Makes sense since the seats are the same no matter which covering.
