Lease tire and wheel insurance

Hi, I'm getting ready to lease a 2021 X5 with 22" wheels and tires and live in South Florida. Would you recommend or not recommend purchasing the option tire and wheel insurance?

If all the drivers are careful and most or all of your driving is in Florida I would skip the insurance. I am leasing my X5 and did buy the wheel/tire insurance as part of a package that included glass and dent protection as well. I am more than halfway through my lease and of course have not used any of the insurance. This is my first lease and was concerned about damage costs at turn in so I bought the insurance. I will never lease again as I am going to be way, way under my mileage due to less travel and owning multiple cars. Good luck with your decision.

just remember you can only buy it at signing. once you drive off the lot you are no longer able to dial that in.

I live in Los Angeles and the roads suck. But I am an attentive driver, and never curb wheels. With Covid, I drive a lot less.

I skipped it as the cost - if I remember - was close to 2k. I have a dent guy who can come to the house, and a wheel place that can refurbish wheels to factory spec for 150 each.

Glass damage would be covered by my insurance.

So it was a big no to me.

Do you have details on what exactly is provided in the BMW Tire & Wheel package and the MSRP? I have not found anything online that outlines this, along with the options for length of the insurance.

I dont have it off the top of my head, I can look into it later this morning when we open and the guys get in I can shoot them a text. I am sure there are some mark ups in that pkg. I dont believe its a flat rate MSRP, could vary model to model based off tire specs etc..You can pay for it upfront or roll into your monthly payment

Thank you! I read on the forums that people were able to buy them at a different dealership after the fact. If it can be purchased at a different dealer before/after the purchase I am sure that would generate some interest here.

I purchased the wheel and tire pkg with cosmetics on my car. I live in FL and there are random places where potholes open up. Although the roads in FL are better than roadways in northern states, I prefer not to risk it on a leased car. If I was buying the car, then I wouldn't buy the protection plan.

Just had my lease return pre-inspection for my '17 340xi and it was $200 for 2 'small' scratches (they really aren't that small, but not exactly noticeable unless standing close to them). We turned on our '17 X3 last month and same thing, $200. These represent the ONLY damage fees I have paid over the course of 5 BMW leases and 3 Audi leases. I live in downtown Boston and these vehicles take a pounding - especially in the winter. Would never buy any of these protection packages.

I purchased it on my 2013 535xi. I live in Maryland and the roads around Baltimore and DC are pretty bad and I was worried about the low profile tires.

Under the policy I had two wheels replaced and 3 tires so it worked out for me!

On my 2020 X5 M50i with 20" wheels I skipped it hoping that the larger tires and suspension will help.

As with any insurance it is a gamble....

I was able to get tire and wheel coverage via Myrtle Beach BMW. They sell another company's product with nationwide coverage that cost me less than BMWs and the coverage was better.

What's the tire warranty on Bridgestones? Or there is no tire warranty?
I just got billed $500 for 1 tire by Audi, highway robbery, tire is worn at 24k miles and Pirelli has 0mile warranty, total nonsense. I never had to deal with this in my old BMW's.

Do you know the name of the company that provided this insurance?

I skipped it on my MY20. Roads in the DMV vary but not too bad for my commute.

So far Pirelli has covered two Scorpion Zero OEM
RF tires (FL and RR) from nail/bolt/road hazard damage it's suffered in the past 11 months of ownership... most I've had in under 5500mi, LOL.

PIRELLI® ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT
& REPLACEMENT LIMITED WARRANTY PASSENGER & LIGHT TRUCK TIRES

Road Hazard Policy for Run Flat Tires Only
Pirelli Run Flat tires are manufactured with technology that allows limited low-inflation operation in the event of sudden loss of pressure. Pirelli does not recommend the repair of run flat tires and as a result, Pirelli provides road hazard coverage on all Pirelli produced tires that are manufactured with run flat technology. To qualify for Run Flat Road Hazard coverage, a completed claim form along with the tire exhibiting the road hazard must be returned to Pirelli through an authorized Pirelli dealer.

If a Run Flat tire becomes unserviceable due to workmanship or materials anomalies or road hazard injury during the initial warranty period, which is one year from the date of original retail purchase of the vehicle or purchase of replacement tires (purchase receipt required) or within the first 2/32" of the original usable tread, whichever occurs first, the tire will be replaced with the same or comparable tire at no charge for the tire to the owner.

Does wheel and tire insurance cover the cost of just the damaged tire/wheel or will it cover a set if others need to be replaced concurrently (ie. usually need to replace both front/rear tires otherwise there would be a material tread wear difference between them)?

I found a dealership that sells what seems to be an amazing warranty package. Wheels and tires covered (even for two sets, e.g. you winter and summer). Includes cosmetic. Zero deductible. You can cancel anytime. Works at any BMW dealership. Price ranges from $2350-$2950 for 3-5 year term. What do you guys think about that?

That is what I assumed... still out of pocket for at least 1, possibly 3 additional tires every time you need to use the insurance. Even worse with RFT tires b/c you can't repair a simple flat and have to replace the tire regardless of severity. Is there just basic wheel insurance which covers rims/curbing/etc. but not tires?

not sure about the language of the BMW plans in full you will have to ask your dealer when you are in the booth signing the paperwork. there may be some third party companies that sell some plans im not sure but just make sure you get all the info on those bc there are some * in some of those that may not work for what your looking for
