For the X7, it's a $3450 difference between the 2019 X7 M-Sport xDrive50i and the 2020 X7 M50i but note that 22" wheels, M-Sport brakes, M-Sport differential, laser lights & alcantara headliner which are optional on the 2019 M-Sport X7 xDrive50i, all come as standard equipment on the 2020 X7 M50i U.S market vehicles.

Equipment-wise the Cayenne Turbo matches up with the X5 M, not the M50i. So really the Cayenne Turbo is just a little bit down on power compared to the new X5 M. I'm sure they will respond with more power.

I'm not saying it's necessarily worth $40k more, but there's more to a car than just the straight line acceleration and power. The Cayenne is much more fun to drive. Porsche also has visibly better build quality than BMW.

Also, the housewives who drive a Cayenne can turn their noses up at the housewives that drive the X5. So there's that as well. That's the whole business model for Land Rover, isn't it?

Is there really no way they can make these SUVs lighter? The X7 with some options will be 6,000 lbs.

As a 3 decade 911 owner, I sure didn’t see the Cayenne S as any better build quality. I extensively test drove a loaded Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. The Turbo really needed to be optioned up to equal a loaded X5 50i M-Sport and then the Turbo was grossly over priced and the design didn’t feel any more luxurious. I begrudgingly accept paying for every little option on my 911’s but no way on a Cayenne.
The S didn’t have the sound or torque of the BMW. It had noticeably more plastic in it and it’s open front cupholder design is inexcusable at this price point.
I wanted to like it but found it’s design not that luxurious in its build material. BMW really upped their game with quality of materials with the G05.

So the new engine is pretty much a free upgrade as it should be with a replacement. Nice that it’s soon here. For me this is the interesting part:

“The bushings, spring and damper settings have all been tuned to complement the new models’ increased power and performance.”

I’m really curious if this is a significant upgrade in body control/sportiness or if it’s just marketing fluff.

I have no idea what's going on so I can't comment on things properly yet. reading the press release and seeing M tuned suspension is my concern given how stiff my M40i was. I have an intermittent lower back issue from an accident years ago so I tend to get uncomfortable in cars very fast and easily. My current X5 has pretty much removed that issue so you see where I'm coming from.

Always order the multi-contour seats. In my opinion that is truly the best money ever spent on any new BMW.

even so the suspension in my M40i was way too firm for the roads here. I found the M5 to be more comfortable but still rough for reference. I even put non runflats and 20" wheels on

I loved that little guy, still sometimes miss it's flingability through corners but my X5 is an entirely different beast

The optional two axle air suspension should delete the M tuned standard suspension and likely give you a VERY cushy ride. I’m on the other side of this fence and hope the standard M tuned suspension is very taut to live up to the M performance badge. Then if someone want cushy there is the optional air suspension. Fair in my book

And I guess adding DHP make that aspect even worse? Flat cornering but significant float when the roll bars are decoupled going straight.

DHP does not include air suspension, no? Thus I would not expect it to be floaty.
