I don't know how you do it - BMW would never earn my business with these kind of lead times!
The fact that the 45e is the only tax friendly SUV with a 6 cylinder engine helps a lot to accept these crazy waiting times. There are just no other options. So we accept the long wait.

Waiting times for other PHEV are similar due to shortage of batteries

Cayenne, RR sport, Q7, XC90 are to high on CO2 and tax is more than 10 K a year higher compared to the 45e. And the new GLE has a 4 cylinder diesel.

we looked at the GLE 350de next to the x5 45e since they are the only beneficial options in Belgium and i was wondering how much strain the little 2L 4 cylinder of 190hp has to go through when the battery is empty.
the GLE weighs even more then the 45e over 2500kg close to 2600kg

Normal for me as my last 4 BMWs have been ordered - I don't like buying stuff off the lot and ordering it takes time; I'm not aware of any company that can build and ship a vehicle out in under 4-6 weeks.

So how you do it is, you plan backwards about 3 months from when you want the car, then work the plan. So far **knock, knock** it's worked out every time. (I use the routine maintenance trips to get in showroom time and test drives)

But yeah, people with instant-gratification needs shouldn't order stuff - the wait time is probably a deal breaker.

The idea might not be so bad. A diesel for longer drives in the weekend and electric for home-work traffic during the week. With the heavy weight the high torque of the diesel is better for the job than a 4 cylinder gasoline like the 40e. My experience with that one is that with an empty battery it was not fun to drive.

The Mercedes has a huge HVB so I don't think it will be empty that fast.

But with my experience with the 40e and 4 cylinder engines (sound and power) I wouldn't go for the GLE.

With an always relaxed and ecological drive style without any sportive ambitions it could be a good choice however . But I think it is aiming at a different group of customers than this forum.

I think there is a difference between waiting times in Europe and US.

In Europe, I usually see waiting times of two or three months for some models. Keep in mind that dealerships do not have as many cars as in US. If a model is completely new, it could be more than three months (i.e. six months).

In US, the dealer parking lot is full of models, and you can check the car and go home in your new car. I suppose in US 4 to 6 weeks is an unbearable waiting time versus the 2-3 hours potential car shopping experience.

I have been living for around 10 years in NY/NJ and love the customer treatment in US. I am not planning to move back to Europe any time soon (maybe when I retire in 30 or more years).

Cancelling the order was not really an option because of the lack of alternatives and making a new order for a hybrid (even different brand) would have made me wait about the same time as just waiting for this one. Going to a non-hybrid is a fiscal nightmare in Belgium if you are a bit into cars that have some performance, so sadly also not an option. I still have my current car which doesn't cost me much because my yearly milage decreased from 40k to 4k because of corona. So in the end, just waiting is a doable option for me personally, not fun, but doable.

yes i agree it's a good idea, i honestly would have preferred the 45e with the 30d engine.

went to status 165 last week, delivery week 43 now.
On arrival, I have a detailing planned first before I go and get my car.
Garage will arrange closed delivery back and forth to the detailer so it should be in perfect state when I get the keys :-)
Few more weeks left

I ordered mine end of last month, too, but I'm still in "order received."

Confirmed with the dealer at the end of last month, the dealer put the order in the system the first week of September (they were super busy) and just got the production number and status "order received".

Hopefully around November according to the dealership.

Wasn't complaining. Just stating the timeline for my order. I'm now in "scheduled for production." And I'm not a guy.

Ship arrived in Bremerhaven :-) really counting down the days. Mailed my salesman to get info on the current recalls but as far as I can tell, mine should not be impacted by it.

So when you order the 45e when do you pay for it? So if you order in 2020 but it does not arrive until 2021 can you get the 2020 tax credit?

Correct, you need to take delivery by 12/31 in order to get the tax credit for 2020. You pay for the car at delivery, dealers usually ask for a small deposit when placing the order.

My dealer asked for $2,000 deposit, but would allow up to $5,000 on credit card for the points.

I just google "webcam <include name of port>" basically :-)

Interesting to see the ship went just passed Zeebrugge to go back to Antwerp, doesn't seem efficient but I guess this has something to do with routing at sea
