REVIEW: Maxton Design G05 front lip spoiler
Lots of folks were interested in this part, and in this company..... but very little information out there on them. I thought I'd post a thorough review for anyone that may be considering it.
Link: https://maxtondesign.com/product-eng...05-M-pack.html Lip spoiler available in flat black, gloss black, and "Carbon look". I chose gloss black to match the factory shadowline trim. It matches well. Total including shipping to Belgium was 200 Euro, or about $220. Review: Shipping quality - D Shipping Timeliness - B Instructions - D Hardware - F Required accessories - F Quality of part - B Finish of part - B Fitment of part - A Part came from Germany to Belgium (not far at all). Thin peel-off layer on part, thin plastic sheet covering it. Box was stretched. Virtually zero protection from damage. The hardware was floating around jingling, not even in a baggy. It's a miracle that there wasn't significant damage. There are a few very fine scratches though, but I believe I can get them out with a claybar. Came with 14 allen bolts, 14 basic nuts, and 14 basic washers..... nothing else. It also came with a 3D Maxton Design sticker on it, dead center. I removed it immediately before it ever saw the sun. Came off clean with a little goo-gone. It "should" have come with 14 standard bolts, 14 washers, and 14 NUTPLATES. It also should have come with double sided installation tape to secure it before you drill. It didn't. I had to acquire both. There is VERY little room for your fingers to attach nuts under the front bumper. I've been doing this 25 years... it was VERY tight. Nutplates are a NECESSITY before you begin. Installation was easy..... with the right hardware (which it didn't come with). With the hardware included, it would have been nearly impossible. Part feels solid and sturdy. Finish is good. Fitment is excellent. I didn't want a carbon lip because I think they look gaudy, chincy, and obviously "aftermarket". I also didn't want one that came with "winglets" built in. This one, fit both bills, and I'm quite happy with the appearance and how it matches the styling without being too "obvious".... and I can't argue with the price either. The overall experience?? Ehhh... could be better. Could also be a lot more expensive too though.

Looks very good.
Did you have to put it on a ramp or lift? I don't have access to anything like that so wondering if it could be fitted by just lying on the ground. I fitted the M Performance kit to my previous 4 series and it definitely needed a lift/ramp/pit. |

Without air suspension? Ramps would be a must-have. |

Looks like ECS Tuning offers the gloss black front splitter for the G05, and for just $124.90. However….ECS also says ship date is 10/9/20. I really like this lip and would give it a go on my M50i. But man, having to wait 6 months for a mod part is like having to wait 3 years for everything else.

Maxton got it to me in about 2 weeks.... during a quarantine.
.... in EUROPE, which I assure you, is far more strict. Maybe they ship to US???? Also, keep in mind that gloss black was an upcharge, as was the fake carbon fiber. |

Very tempted to order one as it looks brilliant. Finishes the front end off so well and exactly what I'm after for my inbound M50i. At that price I think I'll gamble on the shipping.

In addition.... I recommend before it even arrives, go out and purchase: 1) 12 feet of double-sided automotive tape 2) 14 standard 1-inch long bolts, with "about" a 3mm shaft diameter. 3) 14 standard washers to fit the bolts, that are "about" 1/2 inch outside diameter 4) 14 nutplates that match the bolt threads. 5) A 3mm drill bit to drill holes, if you don't already have one. The spoiler didnt come with tape at all. And the hardware it came with was garbage. Trust me on this one. The spoiler is not marked with drill hole locations at all, and the directions are useless. You'll have to remove all 3 covers under the car (all 8mm bolts), then tape up the spoiler, then choose appropriate drill hole locations. My best advice is to "feel" behind the bumper first with your fingers, make sure you can fit a nutplate, and THEN drill. There were instances when I couldnt even fit the short end of an allen wrench behind it, because it was so tight. Hold the nutplate behind the bumper with a thick glove, push the bolt/washer through from the bottom, and then use a socket to turn it tight. Last edited by Ninefourteener; 04-21-2020 at 07:31 AM.. |

No.... not my style. That's a little over the top for me. This was the only piece that looked like it "could" have come from the factory. Everything else looks a little too "body kit" for me.
Just my opinion. |

I contacted www.maxtondesignusa.us yesterday and this is what they stated.
"If you can decide today we can still put it on our next import shipment that is due in the United States at the beginning of June. Our retail price for this part that includes free shipping within the US: BM-X5-05-MPACK-FD1G+FD1RG - (gloss black) - $250.00 Best Regards,"

No, I did not specify which I was considering but they simply offered the gloss black at $250.
