It Official, BMW launches PHEV Campaign– Don’t charge your PHEV until you hear more!

I know there is already another thread dealing with the PHEV recall - so if people think this should be part of that then please go ahead and and merge the threads.

I ordered my 45e in Ireland last January, originally for a July delivery. With the Covid shutdown I ended picking it up on 3rd September. My car was manufactured in the last week of June 2020.

I was aware of the news around the 4,600 odd BMW PHEVs that had some problem with the batteries, welding snots not removed during battery manufacture.

I asked my dealer and at the time about this and there was no stop on my car being delivered, so I collected it at the beginning of September.

I had the VIN so I was checking the recall page on BMW Ireland, but nothing was showing.

Then on 28th September I checked again and I had "Enhancement codes 0061430500, STOP013222"

Called the dealer and was told that one was a software update to fix a problem where the car drops back to charging at 6A, the other was something to do with the charging cable (putting a sticker on it). No worries.

Then this evening when I got into the car to go home from work I had the following message on my iDrive;

So its official, BMW have acknowledged the problem and have started a campaign.

I also got a message on my BMW connected

Just paid €123K for this car a month ago - I love the car but Im feeling pretty pissed about this

Got my 45e delivered 3 days ago. No recalls, no messages ,,, probably previous batch of 45e's were impacted but now it's fixed.

As far as I know it affects vehicles produced between March and August this year.

I think if your car was manufactured after that then you should be ok

mine was produced on 13th of August and is affected by the recall (both codes) - it’s already back at a factory in Zeebrugge for check and potential replacement. I heard that it could take as long as 2 full months to get it back. If it takes longer I’ll be financially screwed since I pay it with my company and it needs to be purchased this year to lower taxes. Otherwise heavy company taxes ... for a 100k car ordered in December last year I’m pissed too.

That seems a bit strong, I was actually enjoying my 45e a lot.

I do think that the G05 45e is a better offering than the F15 40e.

My previous drives have been an E70 and F15, always highly specced and always diesel because running a petrol X5 this side of the pond is really expensive.

Here they tax the hell out of us with fuel, and in Ireland they are about to bring in a law that will ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030. Most other EU countries are doing the same thing but on slightly different timetables - but all heading in the same direction.

So I hope that BMW figure all this out

Our delivery was due this week, and now god know when, extremely disappointed with the lack of information by BMW, our 20th year with the brand, and frankly getting worst year in year out.
I am in the West of Ireland, our Dublin dealer is trying to get some information, as you know one possible problem for us Ireland is the new budget and how they planning to stop the 5k grant for Hybrid cars costing over 50k, it will be a blow to us if we miss out on this over yet more delays, our car was ordered February.
And for no petrol or diesel cars from 2030, this is simply impossible, I cannot see our politicians missing out in all the tax made out of fuel and VRT, it is what finance the costly political system we have.

In Finland they want to force all drivers to buy and install a GPS box in the cars to track all driving and report it to the government so they can tax every centimeter we drive. It's not reality yet, but I'm afraid it won't be long until it is..

Here in the US insurance companies will give you a discount if you let them track your driving but obviously it is not mandatory. I also find it interesting that most of the European forum members are complaining in various topics about their governments and how restrictive/irrational the regulations are. It is not my intention to start a political debate, just sharing my observation as an American...

Some Canadian insurance also offer this. For example, TD has this app, you need to start it when you drive so they can track how fast you are going and how many milage you do everyday, where are you going etc... The saving was only $200 or so a year. In my opinion, not worth it. If I can save substantial amount, en yes

I was offered the App to monitor my driving when shopping for insurance for my 911 , the agent started laughing when I told him to re-check the car I am getting a quote for, but managed to get Classic insurance via specialist.

I had 10% discount on my car insurance in Belgium because I have all the safety features. You have to ask your self. They won't suggest it them selves.

Thanks Jason,

Looks like the full rebates worth 7500 Euros will no longer apply after 2020 for cars above 40k price. if BMW fails to deliver and register our car before end of year, I be looking for a reduction on the price by the amount lost thanks to the delays or simply walk away.

Del.
