Tools for rear brake replacement

I went ahead and got these tools since new rear pads will eventually be needed. The 3-prong adapter does not seem to be included in any non-BMW kits. Both are 3/8 drive.

The 3 prong was on sale on amazon for $12.
The wind back tool was $15 on amazon. It's more heavy duty than most others online.

I have not used these but certain they will work.
Also need bimmerlink or a better one like Burger Motorsports.

Electric parking brake- It does not work that way anymore. Remove the electric motor off the caliper and spin it back manually with a bit or 'service mode' it.

Thats the other way that results in a brake code for many that tried it.
I have $25 in tools plus bimmerlink or better to do it right.

Bking60,

Please keep us posted on how your rear pad change goes. Steps would be appreciated, if possible. So many different stories out there, I wish someone would come up with a 'correct' procedure for the rear.

In case you are not tracking, from what I have read you must DISENGAGE (turn off) the e-brake before starting the job. Good luck!

Correct, retract the "e-piston". I won't be doing this for a year or more, we mostly use the car for trips. I have a case of preplanning, always buying parts and tools in advance. I've seen too many things discontinued where I'm forced to pay more later. I always spray the back of the pads with CRC anti squeal in the red can, it says to let it dry for something like 30 minutes, but I spray them the night before and never have any squeal. I think new spring clips come with bmw and oem pads which is necessary and lots of cleaning plus grease the caliper pins. Also read where you need a very stubby 1/4 drive 7mm hex tool.

Here is a thread on this topic that explains how to retract the rear e-brake piston without throwing codes, you can read the entire thread but post 92 is the procedure this person used.

I tried using BimmerLink. I am getting an error inside BimmerLink app HOWEVER I do hear the noise of EPB retracting. Has anyone experience this?

Has anyone actually done the rear m sport brake pads and can advise what tool is needed to wind back the caliper? Besides bimmerlink, obviously we have to enter parking brake service mode. But the caliper piston also has to be retracted to make room for the new pads.
