Blacked out front grills

Just gotten these shiny grills painted black. The paint they used is removable and the semi-gloss black looks great compared to the original color. A little over 100 CAD, my car is mostly blacked out and the next move is gonna be the exhaust tips and ceramic coating.

Looks cool, as do all black grills on the G05, ummm...but why not just buy the black grill?

They're fairly cheap now, I think the OEM one is close to around $200 bucks now.

I just installed the OEM Gloss Black Shadowline Grille and I'm not too thrilled by the fit. It feels and fits like an aftermarket part in my opinion. You can't tell there's anything off from a few feet away with the hood closed but when the hood is open or you're poking at it there are some panel gaps and flex.

Shouldn’t be that way at all. I did a install tutorial on this in the other section. My guess is you don’t have it aligned up and completely snapped in at all the tab points.

I used your tutorial actually - thank you for posting that!

My top tabs are in correctly. I can't visually verify the bottom ones. It's not terrible it's just not the quality I expected from a BMW OEM part.

That's interesting.

I bought the after-market eBay version from a seller in Taiwan back in September last year (before the OEM grill came out), and it fits perfectly.

I did a walk of the new car showroom at my local BMW dealer (while I was waiting for my car to be returned from a service), and checked out the black OEM grill on both an X5 & X6 on the floor. Both were equipped with the shadowline M package.

The black grills on those cars felt quite light and slightly flimsy, to the point were I could bend the vertical slats on the grill by pushing horizontally with not too much force.

The version I bought from eBay feels heavier, thicker, and made from high quality automotive ABS plastic. The fit is perfect, no gaps or warps anywhere. Its black gloss finish is perfect. I would go as far as saying it's quality is better than the OEM.

So much for OEM parts....

Here's the link to the eBay part, the seller still has them ...https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2019-For...wAAOSwrrldsq5b

Perhaps a bad batch of G05 grilles?

I have the OEM shadowline grill on my X6 and it is solid. Fits like a glove with no gaps or flexing at all.

We know BMW can make solid parts - their OEM trim always is. The way things click into place is an ASMR fanatic's wet dream. So something must have gone wrong with those G05 grilles...

I checked the extended shadowline trim box and love it on my Riverside Blue X6. (Less than a week old and still in love).

Here's my shadowline grill and a short video showing the flex in one corner, even after I removed and reinstalled it.

That really looks like the clips have'nt been pushed in properly.

There are three below and three above on each side, so 12-clips all together.

No - I reinstalled it to no effect, so I learned to blur my eyes and live with it.

My stock black shadowline kidney's flex a bit in both lower corners. But not so much as yours.
Maybe it's normal?
