How Accurate Are "Competed By" Dates?

This is my week - waiting for my M50i to be born. Genius tells me the
"completed by" date is March 15th, which is next Sunday. I know that the production lines shuts down on Saturday, and I assume any cars on the assembly line in a given week are completed prior to the Saturday shutdown. If that scenario is correct, a Sunday completion seems unlikely as the G06 requires 32 hours +/- to build.

That got me to thinking - do they add in a few days to the dates quoted by genius as a cushion? I'm curious what others here have experienced. Appreciated all - my fingertips are numb from all the clicking on the MYBMW website and dialing the genius number!

I believe it means it will be completed that week, not that specific day.

Edit: So the week of the 15th.
Edit 2: I'm wrong. Lol. I was thinking of the production start associated with your VIN, that is a start week. Finished date should be fairly accurate.
Mine was expected as Feb 26, M50i also. I'm not sure the day it finished but when I checked on the 28th it was in transit.

Thanks, not yet though! It's on a slow train to the West Coast of Canada. Hoping it'll be here within a couple of weeks.

Agree with Scotchy, as his description fits my understanding in talking to a Production Genius once or twice. I think the Build Date is set either as they enter that production week or a bit before...I'll certainly track that on my X6, M50i, currently scheduled for Week 15...

Sounds like ours are on the production line together.

I just watched a car with the completion date of March 7th, leave the facility that day which was a Saturday and got to the port today... I'm in LA..... now I'm waiting to see how long it's at the port before it heads to the dealer. So I can get an idea of when my car will arrive. My completion date is March 20th

From experience it isn't the completed by dates that you need to worry about as BMW have control on that. It's the transportation from factory to dealer which is 3rd party.

My current M4 was built on time but took 8 weeks to get from Germany to the north of England (partly due to the 2018 sandstorm but even then my previous M3s and M4 took a few weeks due to hold up at customs). At least with the X5 you US folks don't need to worry too much about hold up in port.

I'm in the northeast US - about 800 miles from Spartanburg. Delivery time should be a matter of days for me. My completed by date is this Sunday the 15th. No activity yet, though I'm expecting to move from "Production Begins" in the next day or so.

Eight weeks is a long time for transcontinental! In my days of driving and ordering BMW's manufactured in Germany I recall shipping times of approximately four weeks.

Yeah this one was delayed because of the sandstorm in port which damaged a load of car. Caused a knock on delay to my M4 but my dealer sorted me an M performance track day as compensation which was a nice gesture.

Usually a couple of weeks from Germany to Thorne and then pot luck how quickly they get it on a transporter from Thorne to the dealer. Sounds like ours are going into production together but the US -> Europe trip means mine isn't scheduled to arrive at the dealer until first week of May.

BMW tracking said my X6 was built Friday 03/06, left factory on Monday 03/09, and arrived at dealership here in Milwaukee yesterday at 3:30pm CDT. Very impressive.
NOTE: Of course I saw it and it looks fantastic !!!
