Driver Profile Changes While Driving

My spouse and I have distinct driver profiles and seat settings, and we only use our own keys when alone in our X5. On several occasions lately, the driver profile has changed from his to mine while he’s been driving it (without me or my key present in the vehicle). This is unnerving, to say the least, and potentially dangerous (as the pedals become harder to reach without quick intervention).

Has anyone else encountered this?

Do you have your digital key or your smartphone with you in the vehicle?

Digital key, no. Smartphone, only the driver’s, and always.

Sorry I wasn't clear; is this in addition to the key fob?

If so the vehicle might be confusing itself by seeing both keys. Try testing if the same behaviour happens with only one key present. If it doesn't, I'll bet the issue is mixing the different types of key.

The issue only occurs when my spouse has his — and only his — key with him in the vehicle.

When we travel together in the X5, we often have both X5 keys with us. The X5 reliably recognizes the key of whoever approaches the driver’s door and calls up the corresponding profile and settings (exactly as designed). In my experience (alone or when we’re together), it retains that profile unless changed in Settings.
