Phone Storage

Unless I want to always have my phone on the charging pad, or keep it in the cup holder, there is no place to put it! Sometimes I want a nice clean look and have the cup holder area closed. Huge design flaw and so annoying!

On top of the cup holders in front of the charge pad
In your front pocket
In the center console
In the left hand glove box
In the right hand glove box
In the front pocket of the door
In the rear pocket of the door
In the groove in your seat if you've got an extender
In the pocket on the left side of the transmission tunnel
On the passenger seat
In your briefcase in the back seat
In an aftermarket dash mount

Not really an issue and I always carry two phones. My personal one sits on the wireless charger and my work phone is in the center console. You could also put it in the small compartment to the left of your steering wheel

OMG! I can’t believe that BMW would let this huge design flaw exist in such an otherwise amazing car! Can this be resolved with a software update?

Not so much smartassy; rather, I think he points out the silliness of your post. You choose not to use the part that BMW specifically designed to hold your phone, so it's a "design flaw"?

Where you can still see your phone

I use an Android phone and would prefer to keep it accessible while driving, struggled to find a spot where it would not block a vent or other well designed BMW control and ultimately decided on putting it above the dash display using a magnetic mount. Works great!
