BMWCCA Rebate Changes Starting 1/1/20! Important Notes For Those Waiting Delivery...

I emailed BMWCCA today about their rebate program that many of us used or plan to use. I will take delivery of my X5 in Q1 of 2020 and planned on joining BMWCCA for the rebate. I was informed that you CANNOT get the rebate instantly anymore with a 3 year membership. Now, you have to do the 3 year membership AND have joined 6 months prior to taking delivery. This will go into effect starting January 2020. Way to screw over loyal customers BMWCCA.

Quote:
We just received new rules from BMW NA today for the 2020 program. You can no longer join and be eligible for a rebate right away. In 2020 they are saying you have to join for 3 years and then wait 6 months before buying a car to qualify.

If you are not currently a member and are purchasing in January, it looks like you will not be eligible for a rebate through our program.

Thanks,
BMW CCA
EDIT: 12/23/19

HUGE NEWS guys!

BMWCCA has decided to grandfather anyone of us in that have ordered and are waiting for the car! Here is their email I woke to this morning...

Quote:
BMW NA has decided that anyone that purchases a 3 year membership before January 1 will be grandfathered in to the program so you can purchase a car early next year and be eligible.
Pure class by BMWCCA and BMWNA! They now have a member for life in me now.

Define "loyal customer" if you're not a member yet and may or may not have a BMW? Maybe that is the exact point, to reward members when buying (another) BMW instead if people becoming a member just to get the rebate....

BMWCCA does not make the rebate rules, BMW NA does. You can direct your frustration to them.

I have owned BMWs for over a decade now. I sold my last one and didn’t continue with BMWCCA at the time because I didn’t have a BMW. I am getting back into a new one in Q1. Loyalty is not defined by keeping a car club membership when you don’t own a car.

All this will do is create bad sentiment toward BMWCCA and discourage new owners from joining. I am getting the message loud and clear. They don’t want me to join and therefore I won’t.

The funny thing is that I am “loyal” enough by BMW standards to receive the loyalty credit.

Can’t argue that. It is a classless thing to do with zero warning. They could have given 6 months in 2020 for the rules change to take affect so people could adjust. If I knew this 6 months ago, I would have rejoined knowing my plans. I played by their rules and then they changed those rules.

6 months headsup to new rules, agreed!

It won’t affect whether I enjoy the vehicle. I am super excited about it, but that was not right to do without warning especially since I ordered while the current rules were in place. I have no say whatsoever on when they will deliver.

Agreed. I didn't even find out about it until after I bought my car, too late to get any rebate...thanks CA

Just over a year ago you had to be a member in good standing for 12 months before you could get the rebate, then last year they added the stipulation that you could buy the 3 year and instantly qualify, must have been too many rebates paid out because of that so they are going to 6 months.

Does anyone know if prior membership counts towards the 6 months? I was a member for years before signing back up again. My join date shows 2008 on my account profile

I have one on order, most likely an early Feb delivery. Definitely curious if I could still sign up now and get the rebate.

I emailed them back. I will sign up today, but I won’t if this is how they treat me. I quoted their original email and it certainly seems they are saying we are out of luck.

I find it hard to believe they won't honor it though. I just checked their website and it still clearly states:

NEW UPDATE: Purchase a three-year membership or longer, and immediately meet the membership qualification for the Membership Reward Rebate Program!

If people bought the membership today based on the above, how can they change the terms suddenly? They would have to put a stop to the program by stating "Anyone who buys the membership after Jan 1st will no longer be eligible for the rebate immediately". There has to be a proper cut off.

I got two rebates this year with two new BMW purchases. The first one was when I purchased my X5 this time last year. It took 3 months to get the first check and 3 weeks for the second rebate check this summer from my M2C purchase. The club is worthy to join regardless of the rebates.

I agree with everything you just said, however I am not paying them the 3 year fee if they tell me outright I won’t be eligible. For $850, I am not using my lawyer to sue them over misrepresentation.

Their email to me that I posted seems pretty clear. Maybe I am reading it wrong?

I’m picking up my X5 tomorrow. I assume if I join BMWCCA tonight and file for the rebate this week I’ll still be covered?

I ordered but won’t take delivery until early February. I just joined and took screenshots of the language on the site in case they deny the rebate when I submit.

I am sure you mentioned you were a previous member for x number of years and you want to renew the membership?

if a $1000 rebate is the breaking point or a big issue then maybe don't buy one? I get it, they did something rather shady (BMW NA) but I'd expect nothing less, even so I'm still a BMWCCA member and enjoy the brand as a whole. I got my membership a while before this BMW. I know a lot of people are doing what you're describing so maybe BMW is catching on or trying to get member count up. Either way I get being annoyed but not much can be done unfortunately.
