9 Month build time for X5 45e WTF

Order my X5 45e 3 weeks ago and was quoted June collection. I just got told to expect October. Should I cancel the order? Anyone else been quoted these ridiculous timescales?

If you read the story about Heavyd 's order, it can be a complete disaster. I was lucky mine was ordered at the end of October and delivered 21st of Februari. The dealer told me to expect it at the end of March/beginning of April. Now with the virus going on, it can become a real waiting game.

Yes. Ordered begin July. Initial production was January and delivery March. Last week they told me production is pushed forward to April with delivery end of May. If the Corona virus does not disrupt the production.
No reason and minimal communication.

Just spoke to my dealership.

My order was placed 6 weeks ago.
It has a allocated build date of Week 12, with a delivery of around Week 20 (middle of May).

Dealership are currently unaware of any delays or issues etc, but will keep me informed.

Unfortunately, its all I have to go on. We don't have anyway of tracking the build ourselves.

If my order slips the date, then that's fine for me. My F15 wont be going back until I get the new vehicle.

I wonder if they are collecting some orders to produce them all at once and put them all on the same ship to Europe. My order was scheduled from the beginning around the same delivery time you got now and I read others with the same delivery period. Mine was promised to be delivered end of March when I ordered but it immediately got pushed back to May.

I also wonder what delivery schedule FilipVDA got after reordering his after the fire incident.

I meantime I read fast deliveries in USA for non hybride models, so I guess it's merely something about production priority.

I already read the clause on the contract to cancel the order. Problem is there is no proper alternative for the X5 45e.

I ordered a 45e January 11th, a few days after that my dealer told me production slot was scheduled for W19 (start of May), expected delivery at dealer W26 (end of June)
Last week when we were in contact about some additional options the message was still "yep, end of June your car will be here".

(I assume there will be delays though, call it expectation management )

Not to pile on but even getting your vehicle fully equipped as you ordered is not guaranteed. Parts shortage from distributors send up similar flags of earlier G05 builds showing up without options or parts like roof rails. BMW has a habit of pushing models through production without the parts/option that are in shortage and crediting the user at the end at the time of delivery.

Counting on the fact, most people will accept this because they have been waiting already forever to receive the car...
I would rather wait a month more and get what I ordered to be honest.

I ordered half december, build week 17 and delivery week 24 was confirmed this week (I get a weekly mail), so no delays for the moment.

Exactly what happened to me. I ordered at the end of July and took delivery at the start of December. In November the dealer said that the ventilated seats and the heated/cooled cup holders had not made the build. I got £2,400 rebate on that

I think parts supply are drying up because of factory closures in China and Europe because of Corona virus.

All car manufacturers will be impacted, expect it to get worse before it gets better.

Just my 20c worth...

Meeting my dealer tomorrow, he was cryptic on the phone about deliveries moving about a lot at the moment which i didn't take as a good sign.

I will let you know the outcome..

I find that unacceptable and I would refuse that car. I don't buy a +100k premium car to receive it with missing options. Even if they give a discount.

I ordered mine first week of Jan. Build week 20 and expected in UK week 27. Current lease was supposed to go back at end of March.

Anyone had experience of it being brought forward rather than further delay? (Optimist here!)

This is exactly why I'm considering cancelling my order. My build is over 85k with decent discount and I've already had them tell me the heat pack upgrade is no longer an option. Ive been completely fobbed off with this lead time nonsense, how can it double by 4 months out of nowhere. Not what I expect for 85k. Now considering a used RS5 sportback based on how aggressive I'm feeling right now 😂

Why did they remove the heat pack?

Apparently the £350 heat pack (heated arm rests & steering wheel) now only available with comfort pack or massage chairs. I added the new M multifunction sports seats £1100 and still couldn't have heat pack.
