Harmon Kardon Conflicting Specs

Does anyone know the exact specs of the HK sound system in the 2020 X5. BMW website shows the following.

Harman Kardon® surround sound system with 360-watts. This 12-speaker sound system includes 5 tweeters (2 tweeters with "Harman Kardon" designation in the mirror triangles), 5 midrange speakers and 2 central bass speakers located under the front seats. This multi-channel system makes the car's cabin a colorful sound experience.

HK website shows the following.

BMW X5

The sense of space is enhanced not only by the horizontal lines and richly contrasting surfaces in the interior of the BMW X5; the Harman Kardon premium Logic 7® surround-sound system also delivers an impressively spatial sound. 16 perfectly placed high-performance speakers create generous and convincing musical landscapes. Huge power, delicate details - the 464 watts amplifier with DSP technology is the architect of a luxurious listening lounge.

Whoever is in charge of the website screwed up. If you check the standard features on the M50i version on the BMW website (since HK is standard on the M50i), you'll see the correct specs that match up with the HK website (see attached photo). But if you're doing the Build Your Own on a 40i and you click on the Harman Kardon option to show you the specs, it's wrong (see attached photo — this is likely what you saw). The web guy probably used the specs from a different BMW model (e.g., the 3-Series or 4-Series) for that link. Hope this helps!

The Belgian X5 configurator also shows 464 watt and 16 speakers. Harman Kardon speakers are 1220 EUR or +/-1375 USD. 500 USD more than in the USA HK is for me Heckler & Koch
I think a totally configured X5 is 20% more expensive than in the USA.

It’s strange that the harman kardon system on the X3 is 600W
But on the X5 it’s only 464W
Both with 16 speakers

That is very strange. Makes you wonder if the specs are wrong on the HK site. Why would an X3 have a more powerful system than the X5?

Same reason why the X3 M40i has more power than the X5 40i.

It's not even accounted for by peak watts vs rms watts. That conversion is 0.7

The HK on the G30 is also listed as 600w, but I recall a test drive in a G05 with HK and then getting back in my G30 with HK straight after and being disappointed that my G30 did not sound as powerful as the G05, so either the listed specs are wrong, or there are other differences which have more of an impact on the overall effect...

Yes. I haven't, but if you do the math I'm sure the horsepower to watts ratio will match.
It's called science.
Or math

There must be some method to the madness, could it be that the greater the horse power and dba of the car, the higher the wattage?

The BMW site is wrong. It has 464 watts. That said, the HK sound systtem on the newer BMW models are light years better than the previous generation HK systems on older models. I have an F86 with HK and the ones on the new X5/X6 are miles ahead.

There are several models of HK systems installed on BMW.
If you don't know which BMW sound system you have, decode your VIN, relevant option codes to look out for are S674A, S676A, S677A, S688A, S6F1A, S6F2A and S752A.

All details are here (not my work, just sharing):

If I remember correctly, there is a downgrade of Harman Kardon people complain about around 2020/2021 model year for X3

All vehicles that had Idrive 6 had a higher 600 wattage amp. Idrive 7 vehicles have a lower 464 watt amp.

The switchover happened I believe sometime in mid 2020.

More than likely due to the fact that the GO5 has different acoustics inside only needing a certainly power to make it sound a certain way. That is my guestimate.

I do feel the HK in my F30 has more powerful bass than my G05, but the G05 sounds a bit cleaner, but not by much (The F30 rattles a bit more! Haha!).
