From what I read earlier on this forum, it is not working on US MY19/20

That's how mine works. I need to be in "Reverse Assistant" mode for the car to brake automatically.

If you try to continue by gently pressing the gas, it dis-engages Reverse Assistant and then braking is manual.

Ok, I'll need to try that. I assumed that the braking occurred in reverse regardless of assisted or manual. It seems now that this is only available in assist mode.

If equipped, should work when you put the vehicle in reverse.

This is how it works in every low end SUV like the Ford Escape. Unfathomable BMW can’t/won’t implement a safety feature everyone else at any price point includes and most at no cost?????

I've tried a few times, and it doesn't work.

I have a soft rear roller-door in my garage, and I've tried backing up (very slowely), and the car didn't brake before contact.

Yes. I've been testing different parking positions in the garage. If I'm under 6 inches from the wall as measured from the rear fender at the wheel, the car will stop. I'll just move further toward the center and provide less room for passenger entry, I guess.
