How many times have you used auto-park?

I didn't think I'd be using this feature as much as I am. I've probably used it at least twice a month on average, parallel parking. Mostly at night, or when it's hard for me to see the curb and doubt whether I'm going to rash the wheels...

The fully hands and foot-free operation throughout the entire procedure makes it the fastest and easiest system I've used to date. I will admit, the first time I tried it was nerve wracking as hell.

I like it but I really haven't used it as much as remote control "parking" on my G30. I can manually park faster than the auto-park does it.

I've tried to use it several times, but it does not recognize the open spaces.

Some folks have reported getting it to work with just one vehicle but there generally needs to be a car in front and behind/either side of the open space in order for it to recognize it.

How are you using it? Is it a house garage or commercial?

I used it three times in a month. Once it went on the curb (albeit a low one), once it worked fine, once it felt like it hit the car in front of me but it just stopped abruptly. I'm nervous to use it now. I'll probably give it another go but parking with IAS is so easy anyway.

couple of times (difficult with Walmart/Kroger etc. Parking lots because they are angled) but at other locations, most of the times it has missed a couple of spaces regardless of cars in front and back and once found a spot (a Parallel spot), people (cars) behind it, are so closed to me that going back for it (or the cars behind me) is not feasible.

But once in action most of the times in e.g., in local communities it parks very smart. There is got a to be a feature in it when you Navigate to a place (using BMW Navigation system) and when you reach to your destination, it should (sense the arrival timing) and hunt for the open lots for you and park automatically. Got to be something like "Navigate and Auto Park".

i don't think I would ever use till I used it then prob would always use it. But interesting thread, interested to see what everyone is saying. I was always curious to see who would use it and how often.

I use it all the time with parallel downtown parking. It is quick and easy.

Tried it once, it worked OK but I have trust issues with it.

Also standard parking spots in EU are rather small. I prefer to walk an extra 100ft to an more 'open' quieter area than to squeeze my X5 in between two cars and risk paint damage from other morons.

Yes I should have clarified parking garage, commercial. Though now I might try my home garage since I can pull by it sideways too.

Seeing a post above about the system making the X5 go up a low curb made me think... has anyone had the auto park feature curb a wheel? Always wondered how good the system is to sense a normal curb.

I've used it for a few years now on soft curbs and hard curbs and it has worked pretty well although slower than I can do it manually. So maybe I'm maybe not the best example since I don't use it very frequently. Although, I haven't had it curb a wheel but I was quite nervous at first since I've only curbed two wheels in 20 years. Once in my M Roadster when I was rushing while parallel parking and the second time in a 5 series while making a sharp right turn and didn't see a hidden curb in a parking garage.

So I’m waiting for my 2020. Still driving my 2015. I have curbed it so many times. And it has curbed itself multiple times.

Long story but I wound up meeting the engineer in charge of X parking systems. And he acknowledged that my generation system has a tendency to curb with darker curb materials. They know it.....

I've used it as a conversation piece... would get a lot of oohs and aahs from passengers the first few times. But for myself, don't use it very often at all.

What I do use on a daily basis is the backup assistant. It's wonderful for getting out of my tight garage.
