Its refined muscle sounding. Doesnt sound like it's trying to be overy loud or ungenuine. A Mustang with strait pipes are louder but sounds like ......
There isn't any exhaust drone with the BMW yet sounds great.
That's how I feel about it, people here of course also think a true V8 is 5L or larger to give you a frame of mind :

Do you think BMW is going to come out with a MPPK and MPE kit for our G05 40i's?

I am hoping and praying for this. I have both installed on my '16 X5...hoping this is available or the X5 M50i...prefer the exhaust as the V8 is so thirsty.

I wouldn’t mind a bump in performance along with a nice subtle growl to get your attention when you mash the pedal.

Do you have a write up on this? Do you have drone in the cabin at cruising speeds? Pros and cons?

Anyone here actually have the MSport exhaust (like me) and think it pointless? Engine sounds really great, but just surprised there is NOTHING from the exhaust once she is warm.

Once you put into sports mode is when exhaust comes alive under throttle

The exhaust sound difference between the 40i and 50i is huge.

I'm surprised the 50i doesn't have the same pops/bangs on downshifts my M40i did, but it still sounds better overall

It has some pops.. Try sport plus, manual, keep it in gear and decelerate in this gear abruptly - like floor, red line and drop the gas.. it will pop

40i engine sounds great, just not the exhaust.

Maybe with time...maybe with UK 98 Octane...

lot's of maybe and I'd like a nice burble like the Panamera makes when changing down now!

I had my dealer open the right flap. The exhaust definitely sounds better, especially on a cold start. It will pop and burble a bit, especially in Sport Plus mode. There is a bit of a noticeable drone at highway speeds, especially when going up a hill. Some had said, on other threads, that the purpose of the flap is to increase turbo boost -- I do feel that I have lost some low-end torque with the flap permanently open

No, it's there to warm the cats, keep drone away but not for the turbos

Either way, I definitely notice an acceleration/torque decrease with it open.

I own a 2016 X5 35i xDrive...Dealer installed M Perf Exhaust and MPPK (software that adds few HP). The exhaust is very loud at cold start...tames itself when warm. but all day it downshifts burps/burlbles and sounds amazing. Eagerly waiting announcement of X5 M50i or M Perf Exhaust for 35i
Not sure how to upload vids

I'd need to see data before agreeing with you. Valves are open in sport mode by default so I can't test it without manaual opening them

they are not open by default in sport mode, you need to hit at least 2000RPM from what i understand for it to open in sport mode.
