2020 X5 M50I AutoBahn with Drive Recorder

This is a 2020 BMW X5 M50i all packages except DHP. I went with the Air and Acoustic Glass. You can barely hear the wind noise at 260!
If yall like the video let me know. I had an issue with the SD card and lost some footage.
The 4 camera view is with Drive Recorder

Nice!

I've been trying to get an answer for this forever:

Does the Drive Recorder automatically record and then record over old footage if it isn't downloaded? Is it automatically always recording?

That’s cool! Did you have to refill your gas tank after? lol

DR is always recording while the engine is running. It is not recording at all with engine off. This is the facility that allows up to 20s pre-trigger recording to be saved. You do not have access to the entire recording, however, only to pre- and post-trigger event clips. Trigger events are only one of a) manual trigger to record, or b) whatever the car sensor set detects as a collision. With all 4 cameras and 20s pre-trigger recordings, you have 10 triggered clips that are stored. I believe there is a setting where it will delete oldest one when you hit number 11, but I am not completely sure. On the other hand, since practically it only records accidents, how many accidents do you anticipate having before downloading or clearing the clips? :-)

Thanks for clarifying. Sounds like one should, theoretically, be able to hit record and get whatever happened in the 20 seconds before hitting record and the 20 seconds after. I'm thinking along the lines of some idiot moves happening and wanting it to be recorded. Guess you could save the Drive Recorder Start Button as a hot Key on the dash and then use it that way.

Yes, when configured as such (which I suspect is by far the most common configuration), you do get 20 seconds of idiocy before and 20 seconds after manual trigger. Unfortunately you can't assign one of the 8 buttons to START recording (but you can assign one to access the DR app, which is a wasted assignment). You can, however, choose DR app as one of the tiles on your home screen and tapping that DOES START recording.

In switzerland is not available.
What this need to work? Connect Drive?
Is not possible to configure to a country like Germany and activate this?
Does this need coding?

Sorry but don't know nothing about this as this is not available.

Thanks in advance

You can long press the panorama camera button to start recording. I don't know if it's setup that way by default, but there's an option for it in the DR menu. That's how I have mine setup. You also have to change the record setting for 20s before and 20s after - I don't think it's setup that way by default.

Drive recorder automatically record during a collision but you can also trigger it to record for 40 seconds. If the space fills up it doesn't let you record anymore. Not sure if collision overwrites the old data.
