CarPlay doesn't display apps
It happened to me for couple days now. It is fine for me to call and answer the phone, it also can play the music, but can not open the apps, like the Waze and the google map. Anyone know what is going on with it? Please see the attached pictures, thanks.

An iDrive reboot is never a bad idea (press hold volume button for 20-30s until display goes black, then release).
Otherwise, it might be simplest to start over. Disable CarPlay in car, disconnect from phone, clear CarPlay connection on the phone, and start initial CarPlay pairing and connection from scratch. There might be less to do to fix, but you'll waste more time figuring it out rather than starting over. As well, the act of starting over may highlight which (if any) of the many config settings got screwed up for future debugging.

Not sure if you got this fixed, but with iOS updates and all sorts of crazy stuff...are the third party apps hidden? I apologize if this seems like I am telling something you already know, but check :
Settings>General>CarPlay...select your vehicle under the "MY CAR" section, then tap Customize. Make sure the apps are not listed under "More Apps". |

Second step would be the good old press the volume button 30 second reset. And if that doesn't work and you are in CarPlay, switch to Idrive mode and switch back to CarPlay again. Last would be erase the phone from Idrive completely but I didn't dare to do that because it took me some phone calls to the CD genius before a got connected to the car with my phone. I was afraid to go through the same trouble again. The car was never showing the confirmation code. I am in Idrive 03/2020 since beginning of March and if I remember I had the same issue but I got I solved by the steps above. Don't remember which. Sorry. |

Is your phone up to date software wise?
I had issues with appleplay and once I updated it to latest software it was all fixed

Just that and just restarting your phone sometimes also helps. Forgot that one.

I just had a similar issue. When connected to CarPlay, if I select "CarPlay" to get to my apps, it just shows the CarPlay icon, but never gets to the home screen where all the apps were. I noticed something was up before then because when I would get a call, the caller ID wasn't showing up on my screen. Rebooted iDrive and everything is working fine now.
edit: to reboot iDrive, hold down the volume/on/off knob for 30+ seconds until the system shuts down. |
