Obviously use a towel or soft item so if your bumper touches it, it won’t cause any harm. I have always used a kids pop-up play tent.
I did it yesterday with the box (24x18x18 " with foamName: IMG_4325.jpg

The car applied the emergency braking while moving back. Everything is working as expected (at least from my prospectives).
The car detected the obstacle in front also but does not make any attempts to apply brakes. It hits the box at any speed from 0 to 40 miles/hour. You can press parking assist button. It doesn't help.

I had an idiotic pedestrian walk out in front of me yesterday and had a red pedestrian show on the dash, this was on my brand new M50I, never had it show on my 2022 40i, not sure whether car would have braked as I did as it appeared on dash.
This discussion also took place on the GLE forum and I tried the hitting a box experiment which didn't work and another member killed a blow up kangaroo trying it.

I know the back up emergency brakes was working because sometimes when I tried to back up of the garage, it thinks I’m too close to something, which it’s not. It would slammed the brake and won’t move an inch. I did notice that after the most recent software update, that Parking detection has become a lot more consistent and precise. Good to know going forward doesn’t brake even detecting obstacles!

Trust me, it works on the rear, that's how I know that I am in far enough when I am backing into my garage everytime. It does nothing in the front, a la when my husband tried to pull it in and tapped our storage shelves in the front SMH
