I am pretty that that's bs. My laptop has a dedicated Ethernet port, and I was able to do some coding in Esys without trouble.

FWIW, the coder may have different tools based on the hardware you have available at your end. It's easier to use what they're comfortable with, and obviously what they support, so verify with them beforehand.

One Facebook 45e forum member who did the 21 kWh update back in the summer is telling me that the app didn't show kWh usage only a couple of times after the update. Also, I did have an issue before the 21 kWh update with kWh usage not showing at all for the whole month of September so I suspect it's just an app issue.

It will work without issue, but will introduce increased battery wear and BMW won't warranty that additional wear... But that's true for any mods generally that cause extra wear. |

charge cycles compared when charged from 0-100%: full 24kWh = 1 charge cycle EU 21.6kWh = 0.9 charge cycle US 17.1kWh = 0.7 charge cycle the higher the charge cycles, the greater negative effect on overall battery health. for example, if someone in the EU fully charged their 45e from empty twice, it would be 1.8 charge cycles. if someone in the US did that, it would be 1.4 charge cycles. |

It has to be said the 45e batterie can be repaired selectively, should that become necessary. There are repair instructions for the 4 big modules, and then again for the individual cell blocks in each module. Won't be cheap due to labor, but apparently can be done by certified dealers - no shipping of complete replacement batteries.

BMW replaces the entire module even if only 1 cell within that module is defective; they do not replace individual cells. last November, I had 1 defective cell in module 4; that entire module of 16 cells was replaced. so if any number of individual cells are defective in each of the 12 modules, then the entire battery assembly will have to be replaced (worst case scenario, of course, but i know of 2 guys going through it right now here in the US). |
