On the year 2022/2023 X5 40i models, since they removed the auto start/stop button. Is there any way to disable it without having to place the vehicle in sport and drive around in the firm suspension setting, any other way around it?

Code it or have it coded for you. You could also try setting up a Sport Individual setting with "Comfort" as the selected suspension setting (see the Manual for the how to). You'll still need to put the vehicle into Sport Individual when you start the vehicle, but you'll have the suspension mode you prefer. There are other posters and threads on this forum that can give you more details on either.

I have a '21, the button to turn if off is gone so I used Bimmercode to disable it full time regardless of what mode I want to drive in.

I'll have to check Bimmercode but I have ASS disabled in 2 fields

Auto Start Function
Auto Start Stop function memory
Active

Auto Start Stop function
Not Active


However, if I choose comfort, it will disable ASS.
And since I have the Function Memory turned off, it will default back to ASS being turned on, the next time I get into the car if I -shut- the car off with Comfort Mode on last use.

I don't think there is a coding that will auto turn it off each and every cold start ?

Easy - even for a first timer like me. Starts up always in sportMode now. Mileage about the same as eco on my highway drive.

I have my sport individual set to all comfort settings. So when I get in I press sport and make sure individual is selected then it’s the same thing as pressing what was the auto start stop button.

Question: I have a 2022 xDrive xLine (no MSport so no driver adjustable dampers). I coded off the ASS and defaulted to adaptive. Prior to the coding Adaptive seemed a bit more plush riding. Now it seems firmer. Does anyone know if the way Bimmercode turns off ASS is by coding in Sport mode (with the accompanying firmer dampling)? It could be my imagination but that it what it feels like.

All G05's have dynamic dampers that adjust with the drive mode. The xLine and MSport suspensions use the exact same hardware, the only difference is tuning. To answer your question, Bimmercode does not go to Sport mode to shut off ASS.

Kind of piggybacking on this a few questions

1) Does coding these options come anywhere close to messing with the warranty? I'm interested in some changes, but not if the dealer can find out.

2) I do actually like the stop/start function but sometimes want it off for a few days, is there a way to have it behave like the old method, where it remembers you've pressed it between shut-offs, I assume that's what the "memory" setting is?

1) YYMV as sometimes things can blip . Dealer AFAIK won't see changes but if somehow something goes wrong during the code change.

Best suggestion I can say is just make sure you do it on a fully charged batter.
Also OBD - via hardwire faster. Speed/faster = less time on battery drain. So do OBD-Wired (mobile device or iPad of your choosing)

2). Yes. On the 1st setting, it will save it's last state. So on next cold start, ASS will remain off if it was *off* from previous state

My thoughts would be to leave it on, pretty well seemless restart with 48V battery.

BimmerCode will save the config file before you alter it so if something does go wrong, you can reload the original file back in.

Yeah, they zapped the ASS On/Off button on the center console somewhere in the 2021 model year. They added new hardware for the gen/starter and 48v battery to support the ever constant ASS. I have to say, they did a great job, if you are not really paying attention, you don't hear or feel it shut off or restart.

I have the button and I leave it on, maybe I’m not in tune to the car but i can not remember a time that I thought, “hey the engine just turned off at this stop” or “wow, there was a lag between pushing the accelerator and the car jumping off the line.”

1. Technically yes, it can effect the warranty if the dealer spots it and can show the coding caused the problem. In Canada there are instances of the dealer seeing the coding and putting the vehicle on a list , that does not happen in the US as far as I know.

2. There is no way to make it remember the last state since the button is gone. When the button was first removed some folks coded theirs to remember and then set it to Sport to turn it off. It came back on with a restart.

Depends on what you code. Let's take a very simple one for example. I coded mine to flash the turn signals 5 times instead of the default 3. So if I had my car at the dealers for service and they drove it and used the turn signals, they "might" catch the fact that its not at the OEM default and hence, must be coded. Then they "might" look for other coding examples.

Yes but they can tell when certain things are coded. The startup warning is an easy one for them.

I see the POV on the remark: visual observation....if observed....vs. the computer diag. logs. I cannot see how that can trigger a red flag but I suppose under the right circumstances ..

I flashed mine off with Bimmercode. My understanding is that when a dealer installs a s/w update, it overwrites the Bimmercode changes, and they have to be re-flashed.

On my MB G550, I disconnected the charge current sensor on the main battery negative terminal. This makes the ASS system believe that the battery charge state won't support starting, so it suspends ASS. Don't know if this works for BMW, but if I get a s/w update that resets ASS, I'll try this before re-Bimmercoding it off again.
