However, enough pins apparently were making contact OR it gravity slipped out of a pin or two because all of a sudden BimmerCode started acting strange and this was after I had already read all the cars modules and coded one.

I reached down and reapplied upward pressure to the adapter while slightly wiggling it upward and then all was fine. Could it be that what ever pin or pins needed for the ASS setting, weren't properly seated in your case? In any event, next time you plug it in, go to the gear icon in BimmerCode, bring up the manual and scroll down to the appropriate section for your connection method and verify you have met all the criteria. You could also try putting the car in diagnostic mode even though TurtleBoy's does it automatically and his set up is about the same as yours.

Do you have the full version of BimmerCode?

I heard back from Stephan, iD8 is not fully supported and they are currently working on it.

From page 153 of the X7's OM (X5 & X6 should be similar), the following conditions prevent the auto start/stop function from shutting the engine off:

▷ In case of a steep downhill grade.
▷ Brake not engaged strongly enough.
▷ The outside temperature is high and automatic
climate control is running.
▷ The car's interior has not yet been heated
or cooled to the required level.
▷ Where there is a risk of window condensation
when the automatic climate control is
switched on.
▷ Engine or other parts not at operating temperature.
▷ Engine cooling is required.
▷ The wheels are at a sharp angle or the
steering wheel is being turned.
▷ Vehicle battery is heavily discharged.
▷ At higher elevations.
▷ Hood is unlocked.
▷ Hill Descent Control is activated.
▷ The Automatic Parking Assistant is activated.
▷ Stop-and-go traffic.
▷ Selector lever position in N or R.
▷ After driving in reverse.
▷ Use of fuel with high ethanol content.

Some of these are quite definite, while others seem rather vague ("high ethanol content" -- E15? / "Stop and Go Traffic" -- I thought this was purpose? / "At high elevations" - 7700 feet where I live doesn't do it.). These are the circumstances where the instrument panel display will show a square box with the "A" inscribed with the circle arrow & start stop, with a diagonal line across the box, indicating that ASS is active but inhibited.

Thank you for the advice. I will try it again later on (tried coding ASS off at least 5 times I think). And yes, I think I have the full version of Bimmercode since I remember paying for it.

I had no problem coding fog lights with high beams and turning off the seatbelt nazi alarm so far.

I used to code ASS memory active with my Bimmercodr. Then I manually turn it off by pressing the bottom next to the shifter and that's it. Car always remember I had it off....
Usually after OTA updateI have to repeat this and it works everytime no issue.....

UNTIL yesterday, I had my car in draler for service. Dealer updated the software in my car to 03/2023.53. When I first get the car back, I notice ASS is ensbled...I figured no issue, I just have to code it again...But then today, after coding it, it still didn't remember my last setting....then I tried to code ASS disable. It still doesn't work....Now the car always have ASS ON, very annoying..

Anybody has the same issues?

Yes, currently ASS can't be coded off on the current version. Bimmercode was looking for a solution last I saw.

Why BMW is so obsessed with ASS, that it went out of the way to make sure ppl can't turn it off?
I really hate it!

In some cars, the default Comfort mode (in this case, Comfort D) can be sluggish, like you have to floor it to get the car moving. But, in my car, it's tuned just about right for daily driving - shifts when I would expect, is super smooth, throttle doesn't feel laggy at all, but also isn't too touchy like some Sport modes. I really like it.

The fact that the driving mode is otherwise perfect, at least for me, makes it extra disappointing that auto stop/start is forced on in that mode, because it takes the driving experience from amazing to terrible when you get in stop-and-go traffic. I don't care what anyone says, it isn't seamless, especially in a situation where you have to ride the brake or feather the throttle.

I'm trying to train myself to get used to switching from D to S when I encounter traffic but I hate that I have to do that.

If you have it on your car use traffic jam assist in stop/go traffic - helps.

I assume with a 50e auto stop/start is a non issue since in stop and go situations you are almost always under electric power. Is that a correct assumption?

The EPA rating was obtained with it in...being able to disable it would continuously lower the efficiency.

Yes, you'll normally be starting from a stop with the EV motor and 'tow-start' mode is quite smooth if the ICE is then needed. The actual starter motor is only used if you're forcing the ICE on from a stop. So, with tow-start, how smooth it is, is entirely up to the computer program, and they seem to have that dialed down pretty good.

What model year is your vehicle? I have a 2020 X7 that I have been coding ASS off with in the past. My car is due for service and is currently stuck on waiting to install 11/2022.60. I was going to have the dealer update it to 03/2023.xx while I'm there. However, after hearing about your issues, I'm going to tell the dealer not to update it. Bimmercode support pretty much confirmed this for me as well. BMW is going down the wrong path with these updates.

Another question. When I code ASS, it seems I also lose eboost function as I won’t see it light up anymore. Any solution ?

2020 X5
I contacted Bimmercode, they acknowledged such situation and they are working on a fix, but there's no easy solution yet....

Coding service

Does anyone in the Tampa, FL area offer the coding service? I don't like installing apps on my phone and would like to disable the auto start/stop and seatbelt chime.

TO code remotely, you need a WIN PC with teamworks app, an Ethernet OBD II adapter, and WiFi where the vehicle is parked. The coder will have some specifics about what you need. But, with that, he can tap into your vehicle and code pretty much anything that is codeable from remote.

I believe it's called TeamViewer, which is remote control app, whereas TeamWorks is an app for atheletes

Yep...senior moment. It is a neat program...I used it to figure out problems with my mother's computer from home as she was 400-miles away...not a convenient personal service call! It's free for personal use, costs for commercial use though.
