Regarding stop/start, I can share how this works in my '22 G30 540i. I configured sport individual for me and my wife, which removes the auto stop/start. But had to use Bimmercode to force the car to default to sport individual when starting up the car. I don't think Bimmercode should be required for these basic settings, but that is what it takes for LCI G30, apparently.

If you don't have Auxiliary Ventilation the AC will stop with the Start Stop to not damage the 12v battery.

In case of the PHEV the CCU will take the energy of the High voltage battery to make this funtion!

Oh man, as an owner of 40e since 2017, I feel like being an E.T. here.

One deal breaker for me now is the trend to change all physical buttons to be virtue on the screen, I really hate it, and as a person who does not like speaking too much, let alone when having someone else sitting on a car, this whole concept of voice control is just so weired and not my type, and besides I do think it is a major safety concern for someone who does not like using the voice control

I like the external look of the LCI, love they upgraded the PHEV to 50e with larger battery but not too large so that the future degradation won’t impact the overall range by too much. Love the air suspension.

Currently in the status of considering getting a new car, but the voice control thing drives me nut, have not decided which model to choose…

I know some well-healed people who are not "car guys" and get nice mid-priced transportation cars and keep them for years. I know other people who don't have big incomes but choose to spend what they do have on the latest and greatest cars. It probably costs $10 to 30k to switch cars. Plus, car payments are much higher when you switch often because you are always at the highest point of the depreciation curve. Over the years, that adds up to a lot of money to drive the very latest all the time. For these guys, it's worth it.

I’ve been guilty of this, but I do it with used cars to hedge the depreciation (usually lightly used). If you include my wife, I’ve bought 9 cars since 2016ish. Only two were new. Overrated, for me. I won’t buy another one new unless we are completely in love and ordering it to exact specs we want. Currently in a ‘21 X7, which replaced a 2021 Lexus GX we bought new and shouldn’t have (wife refused to do any due diligence) and a ‘20 M550, which replaced a ‘18 540 (both used).

So, I can’t hate on the new car flippers. I’m one of the guys that benefits by buying it after they’re short stints of ownership! Then someone else benefits from me. Circle of life!

It's not clearly documented, but the radar sensors and cameras would appear to read the environment and make predicative start/stop decisions based on changing lights/signs/moving cars. Another example is it reads that you're stopping at a stop sign, and therefore will not shut off the engine. Same thing when creeping along a metering lane on a freeway onramp.

My wife's Lexus (NX350) is like you describe... it shuts off overzealously at any and all stops, and the engine only turns back on AFTER you put your foot on the gas which then takes a full second for the engine to come back to live to move the car forward... extremely annoying, but there's a button to turn it off.

No it can not be coded out. All but a few ECUs now require server interaction in order for something to be changed. Only small cosmetic items can be changed last I saw. Unfortunately the days of coding are coming to an end.

I have paid for coding at the dealer level before I ever was able to code anything myself personally

All iDrive8 and beyond. It also will no longer turn off ASS when Sport Individual is being used so that method of bypassing it is not available.

Also as of right now iDrive7 03/2022.x. BMW made a change so it can't be coded and so far a workaround has not be discovered.

Depends on what models and years you are referring to. In the newer ones it is not possible to turn off ASS (should be off in Sport or Sport+). In older, pre-Mild Hybrid, models you could turn it off but it did not remember the setting.

That makes sense. To me it's no big deal to manually switch on Sp/Sp+ after each engine ignite instead of needing it coded to default.

The CAFE is based on the stock configuration...permanently disabling ASS would change that value.

ASS coding was disabled on my 2020 G20 after dealer updated ID7 to 03/2023.

My 2020 G30 still has the button to turn it off, so I just coded it to turn off. It also had a remember last setting option, but I’ll never want it turned on.

Didn’t realize the 2020 G20 didn’t have the button still.
