According to a post in this thread, https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2017680, you can still be in Comfort and ASS disables when you switch from D to S1-8 with a paddle shift. I wonder if this also applies to Eco Pro.
I'm really hoping BMW's paying attention to customer sentiments on this topic because having ASS continuously going off & on in heavy traffic or at long traffic lights affecting both AC function and the general driving experience is pretty damn annoying. And I don't know who would opt to be in Sport mode over Comfort or Eco Pro in tight traffic, but this seems to be the only workaround. What are ya gonna do....

On the start/stop issue, on my '22 40i we can just push the shift lever to the left to turn it off. With that little toggle on the new one, you can't do that. What if you put it in sport mode? How annoying.
I had the iD8 in our M3 and hated it. Your experience reflects our view. I really don't think I'll buy another BMW if it has iD8. We've had every generation X5 but this may be our last (for a while). |

No, only a few ECUs can be coded in iD8. They changed the system so it needs a server connection for changes to be made.

It's a shame about the ID8 and lack of physical buttons etc. Also the stop/start function. Seems the wear and tear of stopping and starting constantly would also effect fuel economy in the negative way. We personally hate stop/start on our cars so guess we'd run in sport all the time then. We would like to upgrade eventually to a new X5 as ours is starting to get on with age but neither of us like the lack of physical buttons but unfortunately it's not just a BMW thing. Maybe we'll see what the next ID brings and maybe that will help.
Also, on the sensafin kind of intrigues me as I know they've come a long way with synthetic materials and it's cheaper to buy. But always been a leather guy and love the smell and feel of it. The sensafin does look pretty good and they do offer some cool colors on some models you can't get in leather. |

I currently have Explorer ST but I am looking into buying new X5. When I bought my ST new we also had this issue with ASS. The good thing was that there is a button to turn it off even in a normal mode. Maybe there will soon be an after market company that will make and sell an "auto start stop eliminator" that can be installed in your car to disable ASS permanently.

I haven’t gotten used to the lack of physical controls - namely having to fumble through the menus to get to the “sync” function for A/C. Which is the dumbest thing ever. If anything needs a quick button, it’s that feature.

For us, the worst thing about the LCI is not having comfort access for rear doors. We usually carry 2 kids in the back and my wife gripes about it all the time. Lack of physical AC buttons is mildly annoying but not as bad as I would’ve expected. |

Yes, should be a difference in ease of use. It is supposed to take care of the shortcomings of iD8. There are a few threads that discuss some of the changes.

This may be an I drive 8 thing. I have the same issue occasionally in my i4 m50. I think it is because the radio is not the active widget/function and the scroll is for the active one. For example last time it happened it was right after I took a call. And even though it went back to playing the radio, the scroll didn’t work. I had to tap the radio widget on the screen and then the scroll worked again for presets. It sure if this is a bug or a bmw “feature “. Hahaha

I got a LCI loaner when our pre-LCI car was in the shop. The mild hybrid smoothed out the start stop and low end power nicely, car felt a bit more refined and the newer base seats are nice.
But as UX designer the IDrive really is awful. I was trying to figure out how to turn the HVAC off and when I pressed down on the fan, instead of turning off it literally gave me an error message to deactivate automatic mode. Imagine driving at 65mph and trying to read a message just to stop the AC? The buttons for those toggles are also crazy small, probably smaller than the switch on an iPhone screen you hold right up to your face. And the last deal breaker was lack of comfort access unlock on the rear door handles. I expect this was a Covid supply chain thing but as someone who always puts the kids in first this was a huge pain in the ass. Will be keeping ours for a while longer.

I don’t get why people keep saying sensafin is like leather. It’s nothing close to Merino.

Not really odd I have had in my life time 90 cars and I have been driving for 40 years . Lately I have been trading around 10,000 miles when the first oil change is needed so once sometimes twice a year.

I ask all this as the buyer profile that likes to buy the extremely lightly used model, so I benefit from your behavior. I have no incentive to criticize it. Just curious about the motives.
