If you are worried about the brakes performance and not concerned about their looks, an option is getting the trailer hitch. It comes with the same m sport brakes in silver (unpainted) with no M logo

Wow, you're right. I have the trailer hitch, but didn't get the M-sport brakes. I never noticed that they are the same size calipers and rotors as the M-sport brakes. Good find

If you option the towing package, you do get upgraded front brakes but not discs as large as 2NH M Sport brakes.

For $550 3AC trailer hitch option, you are paying for trailer hardware and upgraded fixed Brembo 4 piston front calipers and larger front lightweight ventilated discs. Rear discs remain 345x24.

Adding $650 2NH in addition to 3AC trailer hitch, you're getting even larger front lightweight ventilated discs, blue or red fixed Brembo 4 piston front calipers and rear blue or red M Sport TRWs, and larger rear discs 370x24.

40i Towing package / 50i base: Fixed 4 piston Brembo 374x36 + 345x24, lightweight ventilated

Any engine + Option 2NH (Blue or Red) and M50i: Fixed 4 piston Brembo 395x36 + 370x24, lightweight ventilated

not entirely correct. see https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...74&postcount=3
you likely have M-Sport equivalent calipers in the front but standard calipers in the rear with 18" front/rear rotors. (M Sport brakes use 19" rotors.)

This is the reason only 20”+ wheels are available on X5 M/X5 M50i versions!

There is a thread about 19 inch winterwheels and M sport brakes. And it works (looks is another discussion). I actually have them.

I think they are always on 20 inch wheels because 19 inch M wheels are not available.

For the 2022 base 19 inch wheel xDrive40i, will adding 3AC trailer hitch option also increase size of the brake disc and caliper?

Unless you are tracking the car, you don't need the M brakes. They look nice, but the standard brakes are plenty adequate to stop the car. They wouldn't put brakes on the car if it couldn't lock the wheel up after a few hard braking sessions. The M calipers look nice for sure, but it is going to be more aesthetics oriented unless you are tracking it or like driving it hard. I had brembos on my last car and definitely appreciate the aesthetics of it and was the reason I went with the brembos. So it is up to you if getting those brakes are worth an aesthetics cost.
this. For street use, big brake is more for looks. The stopping power is limited by tires. If you do repeated hard braking (track), that is where big surface benefit start.

Even with stock M sport brake, chances are the pads are not great for track either. So people swap pads at track. It is arguably more important then large surface.

BMW does include a larger brake with the towing package unless the vehicle already has them, and the ones they supply do fit with the stock 19" wheels.

Nothing at all wrong with tinting your windows - many people do, particularly in sunny climates. As a reference, rear passenger windows on an X5 come from the factory at 20% VLT (visible light transmission), front passenger windows are about 75%. Anything 35% or higher will reduce UV, heat and glare without sacrificing very much if any visibility. Check your state laws for the allowable.

that's the old way of thinking when it comes to tinting: going darker to reduce heat. fact is, it didn't really work that well. (but the marketing worked well *sigh*) ceramic tint has changed the game, though!

regular tinting was more for looks and blocking direct sunlight but actually provided very little protection from the UV rays that still penetrated and caused heat to build up inside the cabin. today's ceramic tint provides 85-99% UV protection. look at folks that put clear ceramic tint on the front windshield. excellent view with excellent heat rejection!

Ride is terrific. I love the air suspension, particularly cruising over the local cobblestone streets. While this is certainly not a sports car, I don't think cornering is half bad and the instant full torque from electric is awesome. This car has more power than I will ever need on public roads.

Getting 56mpg last I checked. I still have not installed a level two charger so that mpg is just based on whatever charge I can get out of a level 1 wall plug - not bad (takes over 16 hours to fully charge from empty). Planning to get a level 2 installed soon.

Biggest gripe is that the car gets very confused when my wife is in the car with her phone as well. One can set priority of phones but if I am using BMW nav and she puts something into her phones nav, the x5 CarPlay starts giving her phones directions. Not a huge deal by any stretch. Second biggest gripe is that the sound system is definitely NOT stellar. Third biggest gripe are the minor downgrades this model year (no glass on volume knob, no night vision)

If you're considering this car, go get one. Sporty for the size/weight/type, ride is insanely comfortable, tech is top notch. Thanks to all above who helped me figure this out.
I know this is super after the fact but I literally was looking at that exact same color combo for exterior and interior. Could you please share some photos?

An important tip. Not all tinting (film or otherwise) is equal, and older, cheaper films may not filter UVA well if at all (UVA - longer wavelength - penetrates glass, UVB does not). Doesn't necessarily need to be ceramic, but that's generally a more durable (and more expensive) film. Check with your dealer/detailer and shop around. Factory tint, BTW, is generally incorporated into the glass and provides NO UV protection at all.

Some successfully block both IR and UV...shop around and read the specs, not the hype you may hear from the installer. SOme are good, some aren't.
