I could not find any comparison reviews online. I replaced my V1 with the top of the line escort 2 years ago and I have been very happy. I am curious if this will make me want to go back.

The chap over at Vortex Radar (www.vortexradar.com) typically has some good info / reviews on newly released detectors.

If you want user reviews + the home base for the likes of Vortex, then to go:
https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?forums/16/ Several field tests have been run on the V1/G2 but those are found in the subforum on real world videos. It should be noted that one cannot order a unit now since Ohio is under strict quarantine.

I have an Escort 360 and it does not compare in any way to the early reliable alerts as my R7. V1/G2 has comparable range and better BSM rejection than the R7. Of course Waze is a good addition regardless of what RD is in play unless you can afford the coming Theia by Radenso. All such topics are taken up at https://www.rdforum.org/index.php

Radar detectors are awesome for letting you know that a ticket is coming...feels like the K40 is a much better idea. You can get them installed in California without any fuss, and they most certainly work to confuse/block laser. Are they not available in every state?
I know Federally radar jammers are illegal in all 50 states , but laser jammers/scramblers are regulated by the states. And, they are legal in all states except California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Even illegal in CA, you can still buy it locally and have it installed. In fact, it's easier to get this vs. aftermarket tunes like a juicebox, intakes etc! I know several people who have them and have been saved by them. I have a CHP friend who has said to me that in California its just a matter of the volume of choice for police to pull over - everyone is speeding. If they get a bad reading (which is what the K40 will do), they just pick another car. Laser is so hard to catch with a detector for the purpose of avoidance. |

I don't see where it has built in update ability or WIFI. With the Max 360c, you link to your home network & unit will tell you when you pull out or pull in to range if there are updates available. I had a V1- only way to get a update was ship it to them.
And with no GPS you get the same local false alarms constantly along your route, same as a old detector from the '90's |

My V1G2 came in yesterday.
During the installation then the morning commute, I noticed the V1G2 did not alert to the G05 laser so it is not now disabled and hopefully might catch some scatter. However, whenever I want to touch the screen then the V1G2 would give the laser alert.

You may be confusing radar detectors and laser detectors. Radar detectors work, if you also use some common sense. laser "detectors", on the other hand will basically tell you a ticket is coming. if you want full protection run a top quality radar detector and laser jammer. You still need to utilize situational awareness and common sense. |

My daily driver has moved from my F82 M4 to my 2020 X5. I decided to just "borrow" the V1Gen2 RD from my M4 and use it for the X5, rather than spend any more $$ for a 2nd RD.
And yes, I did have to disable the Laser on the V1Gen2 RD as I also have Gesture control and TBH I enjoy using Gesture Control -- The coolness factor hasn't worn off yet for me...

I used a BlendMount to mount my V1G2.
Here's a photo: BlendMount for BMW X5 G05: P/N: BV1-2018

I did it myself. It's fairly easy to do, especially if you follow all the advice provided at this DIY thread:
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1656049 I believe the entire install took me about 20 minutes as I was being careful with each step -- Like removing the mirror covers.

I, too, use a BM and my install looks like yours but no laser issue with the V1G2.
Do you get laser falses from other sources with the G2?
