UK: First service, £421 !

Change of oil and "microfilter" ... they actually might want to replace the oil with champagne, it'd be a LOT cheaper!!

Curious how long was your service? When I did the X5 50i they had it for 6hrs and most of that was due to the like 160+ check points. Not saying that justifies that price but I know labor would add into it for sure. Note they also did a software update on mine at that time.

sweet child of mine ! that's absolutely ridiculous!

i can remember just asking my main dealer to change the oil and filter ONLY. No screen wash, no micro filter. ive even supplied the OEM spec oil on one occasion, but they weren't exactly happy about it. i said if they didn't charge 3 times the amount for the oil id of happily paid their prices.

Is this a non USA charge? In reading the verbiage under BMW's US warranty section, it says this.. ..

Service for the first 3 years used to be free, they changed that last year and at the time, there wasn't even a service plan available to buy.

They sent me a video of the underneath of the car earlier today, they found a nail in one of the tyre and of course recommend I change both tyres immediately. Instead, I'll go get it fixed for £10 at the local shop that has been doing my run flat repairs for 8 years!
There wasn't even any deflation and it's in a lovely flat place of the tyre, perfect for a repair. At least I'll feel I 'saved' something :-)

I decided to go with the 4 year service pack, not anyway as good as the original service packs, but the good thing is you can transfer any unused funds to any other BMW if you change it before the 4 years and they will also pay you back any unused funds(less £25 admin) if you move to another make. On the X5 it is 36 monthly payments of £30 which is £1080 in total. Makes it seem good value on what you paid! It also includes the first MOT and the 4th year map upgrade. It doesn't save you a lot but it fixes your costs going forward and you can go to any dealer.

damn you europeans really do get hosed on these builds. It costs more to buy, you have to shell out for maintenance and worry about having your car stolen by Ukranians yikes.

Hey thereef510, may I point out that you're being unfair mentioning Ukrainians in that way. More of these cars are sold in Ukraine than in most of the neighboring countries put together, other than Russia, of course. Not necessarily a thing to be proud of, but anyway, generalizing like that doesn't seem fair to me.

You're right that was unfair. in fairness, I just picked the first eastern European country I thought of. The folks in western Europe seem to believe all of their car stealing happens due to all the eastern folks. Sorry!

They did my first service for free, although to this day I have no idea why. Didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, though.

Ive just had my first service done and for the first time ever, used an independent bmw specialist. Still cost £310 though. The micro filters bump up the cost by £100 every service. I still had to have genuine Bmw parts that were delivered by Sytners that morning in order to maintain the warranty. The technician showed me 2 micro filters. One cost £10 and the other £50.
I couldn’t tell the difference, till he showed me. One had bmw stamped on the side and the other didn’t. Both made by the same 3rd party supplier and identical. Next service about £780 at bmw or £450 at my independent.

The atoms in the BMW approved one are clearly more tightly bound. That kind of micro-engineering doesn't come cheap, you know?

When we got ours last August, the salesman was acutely embarrassed by the service pack. He wrote down the cost of the service pack vs the cost of the services we would have in 4 years of ownership. It was more than double. He said I have to offer, but can't say we've sold a single new pack since they launched.

Now I'm looking at the price for the 1st service and wonder if they raised standard services prices, and lowered the pack prices.

Not sure why your dealer is changing you £421 when the recommended price is £390 (see attached)

Also, just get the oil service for another £150 less and do the micro filter yourself? It's a £20/10 minute job.

Is the extra price the "scope" cost?

That's what I though but seems oil disposal is included in that

Independent servicing covers the warranty these days but if you have your car on finance, it's important to remember that the GFV is based on BMWFSH so be warned to expect a fight come trade in etc.
