Picked up New X5M Comp today. What am i missing??

I swapped my 2019 M5 comp for this. Exhaust was not what i was expecting.
No crackling on downshifting?? Figured it would be the same. Very disappointed. Anyone know why this is?

This is the reason why. It may be cheaper to have 1 config for all markets.

software updates muted the exhaust. Many ppl on M5 and M8/M850 forum complain about taking in for service and exhaust being muted after updating software.

This is due to EU regulations but it's in all new bmw's muted exhaust

You can still get it back via ECU tune.
I was about to share a video clip of how it sounds only to realize you can't post videos here.

I've tuned my x5M and a few tuners have not been able to get this thing to crackle. I'm not sure why but I'm as frustrated.

Since the tune I've got crackles and burbles but they are so heavily muted you can hear them like a speaker underwater.

Going to give some downpipes a go next and see if that changes it.

I'm almost certain if we get an akra specifically for the car I'm sure it will open it up.

They are there just need to Free them

Keep you posted

My 2020 MB C63s was the same way. Fortunately I got my pops and crackles back after installing Catted DownPipes.

So can you reverse what they did? Really a shame.

Its because of the new sound regulations.

- shooting in exhaust is due "rich petrol" shot in exhaust - programable but you must do it after every update because they delete it by sw update

- loud exhaust - been finding possibilites also
Akra would be best but most expensive solution (opening exhaust by remote controller). Seems as best solution in case of police etc. Other brands make like sport+ loud and rest ok BUT if you would have problems, police or technical control mb can make u to switch over all modes.

For example remus costs about 2300€ and akra 10 000€ (previous x5m). Both possible to install
in bmw with warranty. Both brands dont install it yet on new x5m.

I hope as my x5m come that i would be happy and would not new exhaust but atm i have m540i with performance and it has insane sound for everyone who knows me.. well for me it seems not enough loud so I guess new x5m comp would be sad story in this case also :-/

Did you have the "break in" service yet? That might be the issue.
