Lived where I live for 19 years. Had NO idea that we had tornado sirens. Close by too.
Very Freaky to hear fire up......

I just saw this thread.
I was about 8 miles from my home when the storm hit. It took me two hours to drive the 8 miles. The Gold's gym which had it's rear wall obliterated and was all over the news is less than one mile from my home. All of the damage that was done is that immediate area hit business that I frequent. I almost dropped my clothes at that particular cleaners on the morning of the storm. We eat at that Jimmy John's. Tornados hit in this area all of the time. I'm no meteorologist but I believe that the flat and featureless plain with no tree cover and no buildings give the wind the perfect incubator to develop and sustain the necessary energy to create a serious tornado. It is absolutely normal to see a 100 foot high dust devil just behind that complex. Additionally, tornados have bounced through my neighborhood on several occasions. I can deal with hurricanes...you just leave. Tornados terrify me. Cheers-mk |
