I'm experiencing the same thing with my 2020 X5M. I've installed at least 3 other OTA updates before without issues. I've done everything with ebrake, flat surface, fully charged battery, park etc... It either tells me i will be notified when I can install or let the engine cool down for 30mins.

I have a 2020 X5 40i Xdrive and it also is not installing this OTA. It didn't install the last OTA either with the same issue. It had installed all other OTAs before these 2 OTAs. Its fully transferred to the vehicle and "will let me know" when it will proceed.

I rebooted idrive, topped up the battery with a tender overnight, tried parking on the street and in my driveway, always used the Parking Brake, but the system still will not start the installation.

Only thing i haven't tried is maybe a full battery disconnect to reboot the whole car? Got a full trunk so kinda lazy to try.

Been checking the forms since the last failed OTA install for a solution. I guess I can wait until there been a major bug fix or feature improvement to resort to going to the dealer.

Having same issue with not installing 11/2023.50. Today took it to my BMW dealer for service and ask them to take a look. They said as soon as they connected their system to the car the install started. Got to be something with the battery, however, they did not state that the battery needed replacing. Was no charge for the install.

Note that once the s/w is copied to the vehicle, it only prompts you to start the installation AFTER you’ve driven it and turned it off in a suitable location with all other parameters met. IOW, once it’s downloaded to the vehicle, you have to drive it, then when you shut it off, can it start the update.

We are asking the wrong question. This is my 3rd update install that “won’t”. Still. The car is parked flat, 12.6V, brake on. Nada.
Also no error messages about “fail to load”.
The REAL question is Why the install doesn’t initiate. Something isn’t “ ready” (condition not met), error flag, or the install trigger isn’t triggering.
The CAR knows why, right? Certainly.
How to read the car’s “ready or not” condition for the install.
Or some kind of reboot to trigger the install.

You BIMMER software guys… SAVE US from “battery, level ground, brake, odd/even days, etc.”. What is the hang up?

Bought the vehicle in 8/2023 and a few weeks later, I installed a software update.

Just now, I installed V.11/2023.50. So far I'm 2 for 2. Don't know what I'm doing wrong..

i was able to install 03/2023.50 via OTA, but my vehicle skipped 07/2023.xx. my SA got authorization to install 11/2023.40 during its 3-year maintenance visit, then I received and installed 11/2023.50 via OTA

since Dec 2020, all OTA update notifications I’ve received have been trouble-free installs (5 total IIRCC)

it could download/upload the update file, but you have to initiate the update, so if you don’t want it because of the ASS issue, then just ignore the install prompt. IOW, the software doesn’t automatically install after being downloaded/uploaded

I'm wondering if the reason updates won't install on our vehicle is because I have ASS coded to remember the setting so that ASS remains off unless it is in Eco Pro mode. Is this possible? An update hasn't installed in at least 2 years and I've had at least 5 updates downloaded to my mobile phone but none have installed.

That’s great to hear thank you. I just hate the fact that it’s on My BMW app don’t think I can get rid of that.

Mine FINALLY updated today after I threw it on the charger. Not sure what's up with the photo orientation.

Glad you got yours to install. The orientation problem is usually caused by being larger than the max pixel size. I always keep mine no bigger than 1200 x 1200 and they are good.

My phone says Software upgrade is ready for install. However, my X5 has been stuck with a partial upload for a year now. Is this a service department issue or a Genius issue? Service has been of no help the past 2 times I have had it in for routine service.

The saddest part about all of this is that there appears to be no practical advantages in the update. I’m compulsive about updating so I get it, but for those who can’t, I don’t think you are missing anything.

When you say you "threw it on the charger," are you referring to a trickle charger or something? I am convinced that my battery must not be achieving some necessary benchmark, because I mostly make really short trips. I really cannot figure out what else could be keeping my now second upgrade from kicking off. When they pushed out 11.23, I thought surely it would work, yet here I am again, waiting for the car to tell me when it is ready to begin the install - parked, e-brake on, etc.
